I go to the movie, and I go downtown
Somebody keeps telling me "don't hang around"
It's been a long, a long time coming, but I know
A change is gonna come oh yes it will.

Hey Oliver,

Thanks for posting those pictures... I think some people truly forget where this country was just 40 or 50 years ago. Last night was the beginning of a new era.

Hopefully, the world will now view us in a different light, and we can stop being "Arrogant Americans" and actually have other countries identify with our leaders!

Very historic day, very great day. Like McCain said, the people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly.

I like the other post you had, where the man shouted "Abraham, JFK, Obama!".

Pretty cool to be able to experience all that history right in your own backyard. Racism always had some roots in ‘yahoo economics’, and now a highly qualified black man will be instrumental in sweeping the YOYO economic yahoos out of DC.

For some reason I’ve had a perverse interest in the reactions of the opposition - what’s it like to be on the wrong side of history? Condi seemed genuinely pleased. But LaShawn Barber is still evangelical-wingnutty.

Oliver, I echo your sentiment. It is always in my heart, especially when elections are held.

We are forever in debt to those depicted in the photos you posted, and the unseen other millions of Americans, who took up the struggle for our civil and voting rights. It is why I vote.

This is the future of that past. Free at last! Free at last!

Last night, the image that was most profound to me was seeing Rev. Jessie Jackson crying. Then hearing the AA leaders talking about how this election will take some time to sink in. The NO you can not do that is still embedded in the minds of African-Americans. As a Navy brat I grew up all over this nation and overseas but I remember living in Jax Beach FL until I was 9 years old. The separation was not spoken between everyone but we played with only whites and I did not question why. I was not raised to think about race division and talk hate but each side stayed separated. At 9 I moved to VT, a State that has a very small AA population but very tolerant to race. It helped me see the hidden racism that was present as I grew up. I have raised my children to view that all Americans are created equal and not to judge anyone by the color of their skin. There is still more work to be done. I am proud to say I was a part of this history and a part of the first blue State, I am more proud to say the Obama is my President.
