    It wasn’t flawless, prop8 passed :<<<

  2. Sean D. Martin says:

As did anti-equality measures in several states and Bachmann was re-elected in MN.

So, not flawless. But damn good regardless.

Now the hard work actually starts.

  3. Mylegacy says:

    Great morning, eh?

    I have a confession – and a comment.

Confession first. I’m actually not an America – I’m a Canadian, living in beautiful British Columbia. As I write this I’m looking out the window of my condo in Nanaimo on the ships moving around in the harbour. (Yes – the “u” belongs there in the Queen’s English – from now on I won’t have to misspell words to pander to you rebels! Friendly rebels – however!) Live is tough.

From the beginning over 20 months ago I was favouring (again the “u” is correct) Hillary Clinton. I wanted Hillary and Obama with two terms for Hillary and then two terms for Obama. I still think that would have been the best. I think that would have given the Democrats a plausible 16 year plan for governing for at least a generation. However – Obama is without a doubt a man for the ages. Here in Canada – Obama was a 75 to 25 favourite. (again the “u” is correct)

Interestingly, this is not a “progressive” victory. It is very much an Obama victory. AA’s and Latino’s PASSED Prop 8 in California. The more they voted for Obama the more they voted AGAINST gay marriage. The Democrats “social” platform will have to be closer to the centre (“re” is correct, also. At least I’ll be able to teach you guys how to spell!!!) AA’s and Latino’s voting this way does not please me much – but it is FACT.

I’m actually a “Social Democrat.” In Canada that means I vote NDP, a pro capitalist (with REGULATIONS!!!!), pro working class, pro Union (the route for working people to the middle class), socially liberal party that believes in Universal Health Care and that free markets are best BUT that Natural Resources – Oil/gas/Coal/etc./etc. are OWNED by ALL Canadians and the nation must see that they are only exploited if there is a real and appropriate return to the “people.”

Last night I congratulated Oliver on his site. Of all the sites I’ve lurked on and commented on over these last 20 odd months – Oliver’s has been – and still is – one of my favourites.

From now one – as I spell things correctly – I will no longer explain the differences in spelling.

America – the WORLD is proud of you all. The WORLD needs America to be an intelligent, constructive voice for reason, freedom and democracy. FINALLY – you are again.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

  4. Dennis says:

Nice first day with the stock market. DOW down 486 points.

    Buyer’s remorse taking hold already.

  5. PG says:

Dennis, I’m guessing your knowledge of the financial markets is based on a quick glance at the Dow and not mere minutiae like today’s bad reports from the Institute for Supply Management and Automatic Data Processing, as well as poor earnings reports from GM and other major American companies. The markets that moved after Obama’s election was looking certain, but before these reports came out, were the markets in the Pacific near the International Date Line — Nikkei 225 up 4.5%, Hang Seng up 3.2%, Kospi up 2.4%, Straits Times up 3.3%, Sydney’s S.& P./ASX 200 up 2.9%.

  6. PG says:

    Dennis,

Indeed, you don’t seem to read more than the first clause of your own link:

“The stock market posted its biggest plunge following a presidential election as reports on jobs and service industries stoked concern the economy will worsen even as President-elect Barack Obama tries to stimulate growth.”

Seriously, who’s going to help me run a literacy outreach program for the conservative commenters here? Let’s get them up to speed before 2012!

  7. Dennis says:

    Rahm Emanuel.

    Change.

  8. Warren Terra says:

Dennis, it’s all a conspiracy, dontcha know: now that we know Obama will be our President (and yours!) on Jan 20, we evil liberals are using our control of everything to lower the stock market, to give President Obama a low starting point so that after the eight years of his Presidency the stock market will have had the greatest gains possible. This sort of meddling must explain why the stock market historically grows better under Democratic Presidents than under Republicans.

  9. mambochicken23 says:

BAHAHAHAHA! Dennis, you make me laugh and laugh. Seriously, can we get you a mic and just have an audio feed of your incessant blather and nonsensical bullshit on the intertubes all the time? It’d be a great podcast.

I bask in your misguided misery. Your tears taste so sweet to me that I fear ice cream will forever be rendered bland and tasteless from this point onwards. May this day, on Obama’s first full day as President-elect of these United States, mark the first day of your final descent into pitiful, petty, utterly ineffectual bleating for your political causes.

Ahhh, schadenfreude… like a breath of fresh air…

  10. Duros Hussein 62 says:

I’m getting my vasectomy reversed just so’s the wife and I can get our free gay abortion.

After all teh gayh buttseks, of course.

There’s always Alaska, Dennis. You can join the AIP.

  11. PG says:

    Rahm Emanuel.

    Change.

If only Obama followed the Palin method of staffing government, in which jobs are handed out to one’s high school pals with no prior experience nor knowledge in the given field. Because after all, what Americans were voting for with Obama was change in the staffing of government, not change in what government itself does.

  12. Nimrod Gently says:

    Dennis.

    Petulance.

  13. Parthenon says:

Dennis, I think we both know that if he picked unexperienced people, you guys would be whining about the lack of experience in the white house. This is a classic damned-if-you-do-or-don’t. “If he picks new guys, bitch about the lack of experience; if he picks old guys, bitch about how this invalidates the ‘change’ theme.”

  14. Parthenon says:

And it’s raining today. Investors must have pulled all that capital out to buy new umbrellas. But it’s also Wednesday, so maybe they pulled it out to take advantage of two-for-one pizza night.

    The world may never know.

  15. fafaroo says:

    Dennis,

Didn’t you get the memo? Oh, you didn’t? Here it is right here: http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/map.html

    Your bullshit doesn’t work anymore.

  16. MH says:

From now one – as I spell things correctly – I will no longer explain the differences in spelling.

If you’re going to lecture on and on about spelling, you really ought to be sure to dot your i’s and cross your t’s, so to speak.
