They Will Believe Anything.

In the heat of this election’s back and forth, a lot of nutty stuff comes over the transom. There is credible stuff, and stuff that simply isn’t credible. Any blogger with more than one visitor gets this stuff and its up to he or she to choose whether to go with it. That’s why it’s pretty insane that a veteran blogger like Kevin Aylward of Wizbang (the site frequent commenter JayTea writes for), links seriously to a “report” like this. What does it say?

The blog, Hillbuzz, has a comment from an Obama insider that weaves a conspiracy about how Obama has hired people to skew polls and watch blogs and flood them with pro-Obama comments.

Now, everything here is false. Clearly. This is the same blog, after all, that posted phony stories about the campaign “hiring” 400 bloggers and aided Larry Johnson in pushing the made-up “rant” tape.

In other words, a source far less credible than the recent report that aliens are now supporting McCain. And yet, Aylward links to this and says “Given the fact that Obama is flush with cash I have no problem believing that they’re pay people to make him look inevitable.”

Four to eight years of this? Wow.

UPDATE: Oh, look, Rush Limbaugh is pushing this too. Perhaps Rush can tell Kevin about how Hillary Clinton killed a guy once, and other myths of the right.

The only paid trolls I have heard about are from the right. Most cut and paste the same comments everywhere. And the PUMA pages are always talking conspiracies ending up in a frothing state of delusion. If the PUMAs do not want to be change to Republicans that suits me just fine- we don’t need their hate.

  2. thorswitch says:

Yeah, that’s pretty much the ONLY downside I can see to Obama winning – the wingnuts are going to be out in force at levels beyond anything we saw during the hysteria of the Clinton years. I am NOT looking forward to that. However, if that’s the price I have to pay to not have McCain as my president, I’ll take it in a heartbeat!

  3. fafaroo says:

    And say anything … http://wizbangblog.com/content/2008/10/30/on-canceling-the-informed-vote.php

Really. Black people are going to cancel your vote and steal your money, whitey!

  4. fafaroo says:

Yup. Conservatives. Not racist fucks at all:

Jimmy Carter’s Mugabe did a similar thing in Zimbabwe, took the white folks farms, and gave them to people who needed them. Then they found having a farm didn’t mean you knew how to farm, and now they all starve together. The white folks left the country … LOL.

Jay Tea, you wanna say anything about this comment?

  5. PaulC says:

That same thing was posted on Ken Layne’s AOL blog. It’s BS.

  6. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Paid trolls? Rant tapes?

Pish and posh! When it comes to galloping batshittery, these people are amateurs.

If you want robust, industrial strength batshittery, you have to go to one of the pros. Like Pammy Geller. Pammy posted up a good 10,000 words to prove that Obama isn’t actually the son of Barack Obama Sr. Oh, no. She has Proof By G*d, that Obama is the son of none other than…

  8. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Bah! No link love!

    Better?

  9. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Help, Mr. Wizard!!

  10. fafaroo says:

And here’s our good friend Kim Priestap suggesting that McCain’s campaign should get a boost from Osama bin Laden:

It seems Osama bin Laden wants Barack Obama to win…This ties nicely into John McCain’s national security message that he discussed on the campaign trail this morning.

The point of all this is that it ain’t just that one post at Wizbang. The place is a cesspool of panicky, desperation.

    Jay Tea, any comment?

  11. canadian bacon says:

“Oh. My. God. This is now officially my favorite post ever at wizbang. Kevin, I think you should make it your personal crusade to uncover this vast left wing conspiracy before it destroys America!

    Good luck and Godspeed.”

    post 11

    Is this serious?

  12. Quaker in a Basement says:

Well, here’s the link. Go see for yourself.

So I went to Wikipedia like they ask and read the blurb about the road to serfdom. Here it is –

“Hayek argued that within a centrally planned economic system, the distribution and allocation of all resources and goods would devolve onto a small group, which would be incapable of processing all the information pertinent to the appropriate distribution of the resources and goods at the central planners’ disposal.”

It’s supposed to be a description of socialism but it sounds like monopoly capitalism to me. Pissed off.

  14. canadian bacon says:

I couldn’t read it all – it’s almost as long as Atlas Shrugged. Did they forget to mention his stint in a Madras? Maybe I’ll get to that part.

  15. canadian bacon says:

From Atlas Shrugs – “Barack Hussein Obama Jr Malcolm X Barack Hussein Obama Sr. Barack Hussein Obama Sr., Tom Mboya, and Philip Ochieng, all share common physical features of the Kenyan Luo tribe: Modest stature under six feet, round faces, small chins, wide set eyes, slanted back foreheads, and retracted hairlines…none of these features are shared by Malcolm X and Barack Hussein Obama Jr.”

    Nazi science at its finest.

  16. midderpidge says:

I have to disagree with Jaytea’s conclusion, is it possible that Obama is flush with cash because he hasn’t wasted it, and is it possible that McCain wasted his money on just this type of crap. I submit that JayTea probably stumbled across this story while surfing various right wing nutblogs, and that the story was possibly posted by someone working for the McCain campaign. Could Wizbang be a McCain funded site???!!! Gasp.

  17. Tyro says:

I don’t forget stuff. I remember all the crazy stuff people have been saying about Obama, and I’m going to hold it against those crazies for the rest of their lives.

Look, it was bad enough when a bunch of Republican partisans failed a big moral test by supporting GW Bush’s endorsement of the use of torture and secret prisons. But the outright crazy, unhinged shit they’ve been peddling about Obama, while not morally worse, is indicative of a deep-seated dishonesty and gullibility in service to such a disaster of an ideological movement that I can’t help but think that the anti-Obama talking points represent deep personal failures on the part of the perpetrators. And I’m not going to forget “where they were” in 2008.

  18. Yes, Pamela Gellar is going to be superamusing.

  19. midderpidge says:

Remember when Obama suspended his campaign to visit his sick grandmother and right wing nutters claimed he was rushing to Hawaii to plant a forged birth certificate?

Well Obama is going to suspend his campaign for a few hours to trick-or-treat with his daughter, aka in wingnut parlance, reaffirm his signed contract with the devil with a human sacrifice.

  20. canadian bacon says:

Thank god for those witches. They’re doing a great job. The OTHER is alive and well in 08. It takes a village!!

  21. fafaroo says:

Ok. I feel out of it. What’s this witches thing? Am i behind on the latest wingnuttery? Damn.

  27. PG says:

“sarah p” seems awfully illiterate for someone working as a professional in marketing for a presidential campaign, particularly one as well-financed as Obama’s. You don’t have to be a Rhodes Scholar to do marketing, but any outfit that the Obama campaign would hire expects people to know the difference between one’s “conscious” and “conscience” (hint: the former is psychological, the latter is spiritual), “moral” and “morale,” as well as basic grammar, punctuation and spelling. Marketing is full of English majors who failed to become real writers, but they do know how to write properly. This comes off as the work of a person who first learned to write in the age of IMs and text messaging.

Shouldn’t we do something here like Ted Barlow suggested when Jonah Goldberg was hyping similarly ridiculous and anonymous smears about Kerry? That is, let’s flood rightwing blogs with fiction about the Obama campaign’s tactics — make it plausible to the ‘wingers, but throw in something that would be obviously ridiculous to anyone who stopped to think. I’ll send my 18-month-old iPod shuffle to anyone who can get Limbaugh to tout his/her made-up story on his radio show.
