If Dan was trying to make a point, his efforts were so weak that the onus is not on anyone else to strive to understand it.
1) He refers to the Left’s obsession with hyphenated identities, yet doesn’t provide any example of someone using the word “afro-mercial.” That’s Riehl’s construction. Why is he attaching “afro” to a standard noun and claiming that it’s a reference to the Left’s identity politics?
2) Talking about an informercial made by Obama as an example of the Left’s identity politics is especially ludicrous, given that Obama depicted only one member of the African side of his family (his father, in the context of talking about how his father’s absence affected him) and otherwise was giving the bio of his Kansas grandpa (fought in Patton’s Army), grandma (Rosie the Riveter) and mom (despite Tom Shales’s stupidity, the one who woke him up before dawn to study). This is “identity politics”?
3) It’s Riehl, not the majority of Obama’s supporters, who is obsessed with Obama’s African blood. Why does he feel the need to assign his problems to his opponents? Own them, admit them, deal with them.
Well, with his logic, the Census bureau is the most racist organization for always having to break all those labels. Dan Riehl looks Riehl racist and a Riehl tool.
Right Dan-o. Until The Left came along with their fancy elitist hyphens, we were all just Americans. Nobody ever even noticed that some people were different, much less marginalized or ostracized them.
American society spends 300 years sending the message to black folks: “You’re not one of us!” Not a problem, right Dan? That’s all over with now.
yep, that’s right, there were no St Patrick Day Parades, no Columbus Day Parades, no Swedish meatball festivals… in fact no cultural identity of any sort except ‘Murican was recognized until those damned leftist decided to get into the act.
Funny, sad, kinda scary. So many rightwingers are running around basically asking, “Can’t you see that he’s BLACK?” Yes, we see. We see. I’m looking forward to a President Obama, that’s my hope and prayer.
Stay classy, Asshat.
What.
Well, I liked one of the responses:
“Afromercial? Seriously?
I take it you missed it because your white hood was obscuring your vision.”
But debatable whether to even bother with these neanderbloggers.
Perhaps we should have a contest to see who can dig up the most racist wingnut response to an Obama landslide next week.
Only “sometimes”? That’s generous…
Your modern Republican party. Classy.
Check out his pathetic excuse. He’s not racist, he just blames black people for the overuse of hyphens in this country. I kid you not!
Dan Riehl is just bitter.
Then again, if I looked like the love child of Tor Johnson and Joan Rivers with a case of hyperpituitarism, I might be bitter too.
Looks like he’s run from his words already. Whatever post you originally linked to, it’s now been replaced by a reply to your blog here.

Please don’t stoop the that level. There is certainly enough to criticize Riehl for without acting like a four-year-old or a right winger.
Post election I intend to visit right-wing blogs for at least half my comedy intake.
I think you missed the point that dan was trying to make. But, then again, your rapid response played right to the point.
The point Dan was trying to make? What point would that be, exactly?
I love the response: I HAD TO BE A RACIST BECAUSE LIBERALS ARE MEEEEEN.
Playground logic.
A.

Ok, I’ll bet. Which point was that? That he’s a total douche or just an asshole?

I’m gonna check out the Usenet group “alt flame [n-words]“. Those two-bit redneck wanna-bes will be in full blossom.

Not necessarily. Far from all conservatives are racist. However, racists tend to gravitate to conservative parties.
“Perhaps we should have a contest to see who can dig up the most racist wingnut response to an Obama landslide next week.”
If there is a landslide, I’m hoping the right-wingers will just shut up and sulk.
Speaking of conservatives letting it all hang out there, while the LGF lizards seem to have gone back under their rocks, here’s another “it’s OK for conservatives to compare what they don’t like to Nazism”: taking away same-sex couples’ right to way will be like stopping Hitler’s rise to power in Germany.
Sorry, that should be “right to marry”
PG, with that link, I have officially given up on being able to differentiate between what is real and what is parody anymore.
There’s one hyphenated-American group Dan likes to talk about quite a lot: un-americans

Thanks so much for your blog. I just found it through Mother Jones and I’m glad. Obama/Biden peace justice opportunity ‘08 (I’m praying)!
