Because you’re simply teaching your kids to make life tough for teachers and disrupt the learning of others. God. (via)

What the hell has become of our society that basic science is being scared out of our children at home. How are these children supposed to compete on the world stage? Jeez—a country of Sarah Palins.
Anti-science is a bigotry that breeds other bigotries. It’s hard to be pro-reality and anti-gay at the same time, for instance.
You know, I’ve always considered Arizona pretty backward, but nobody complained about the bio teacher talking about evolution. (Of course, he DID start the lesson by saying that in his view it’s totally reconcilable with religious faith.)
The closest I can remember anyone coming to this kind of argument was actually in English class. The teacher had asked us to list our heroes or great leaders or some such thing, and a friend of mine mentioned Charles Darwin; one of the religious kids started yelling.
That said, I disagree fundamentally with your “take your kids out of school” response. Poorly-educated fundamentalists do not exist in a vacuum, their views affect the rest of us. They’re the ones who vote in people like Bush, Palin, Lott, Bachmann…
The school board spending extra time and money on meetings to explain the evolution curriculum may seem like a waste, but from what I read in the article, it sounds like it’s working, at least getting people open to the conversation.
And it bears noting that they’re not merely teaching evolution, they’re teaching the critical thinking that forms the foundation of science. THAT’S really the key — question everything, always remain skeptical and curious.
Agree with Thad. The point of science is not to dispel one’s religious beliefs, but to turn you into an enquiring mind. Have faith if you want, but know how to figure stuff out.
“some students repeatedly screamed “no” when he began talking about it.”
What a sad state of affairs. Imagine what those kids’ parents must be like.
Oliver, Oliver…I am SO tempted to wade into this…I’ll count to 10…slowly…
We can discuss the delights of ignorance and superstition some other day. I won’t touch this one – at least not before the election.
Let’s not take our minds off the prize – in just 9 days. Right now, America needs saving from the results of eight wonderful years of George Bush’s lasting gifts to us all.

Yes, the Americas were settled by Puritans. Sometimes it’s really really obvious.
