He’s a freak. He’s losing his mind over this paradigm shift. He can’t believe that Reagan is dead and his team is jumping ship. Dumbbaugh texts Levin and Hannibal their talking points and they repeat it like some TM mantra. Freedom of speech … I guess.

  2. Oh Mark Levin has definitely lost it. In the past seven years we’ve seen the Patriot Act, Guantanamo Bay, and Homeland Security, and he’s worried that OBAMA is going to take away our freedom!?!?

Also, concerning his reference to “Obama flags”, he evidently still believes that the “O” in Ohio’s state flag stands for Obama and not the name of that state. Nah, he doesn’t believe that, but he’s hoping his readers don’t know the difference.

I’m petitioning the Commissariat to add a swastika or two to the Obama flag. Do I have any signers?

Am I missing something here, or was it okay on The Corner to worship Commander Codpiece a few years back?

Jeez, do they have wear a Dunce cap when they sit in The Corner?

I think the most fundamental thing I’m hoping for from an Obama presidency is a return to intelligent discourse in this country. I’m really hoping he ushers in a new era in which we can actually discuss policy and issues rationally, like reasonable adults.

Because I’m sick of this “Politics for Dummies” atmosphere in which people like Mark Levin can rant about a proposed incremental change in our tax structure as if it represents the end of Western Civilization. An atmosphere in which any proposal left of the status quo can be stamped with an outrageous label like “socialist” and everyone accepts that the debate is now between capitalists and communists and nothing less than the soul of America is at stake. That’s just stupid, and I’m tired of it.

Obama is talking about adjusting our tax system so it is a little more progressive than it has been lately – largely by rolling back changes that were made under the Bush administration. Our tax system will still be nowhere near as progressive as it was, say, in the 1950s, when top income tax brackets were above 90 percent. All he is saying is, “Ok, Bush adjusted the tax structure to the benefit of the wealthy, now I’m going to readjust it to the benefit of those who are not wealthy, much like it was before Bush made his changes.” That makes him a socialist.

And the scary thing is that I think people like Levin believe it when they say it. It’s not just cynical framing, I think these guys have been living on Planet Limbaugh so long they’ve fallen victim to their own hyperbole and paranoia. Or at least they’re susceptible to hysterical overreaction when things don’t go their way and they get emotional. They talk like idiots, and they nurture an atmosphere where calm, measured reasoning is never heard above the roar of idiotic, hysterical hyperbole.

No, adjusting the tax structure so the wealthy pay more than they’ve become used to in the last 8 years isn’t going to lead us down the path to communism or destroy America or warp her soul. It’s just a different idea about what’s fair in the current environment, it’s not a challenge to the very concept of free enterprise. Dry your panties, Mr. Levin, and lie back on the chaise longue while I open a window to let in a little air. We’ll get through this. Together.

Max, if I were a woman and it was physically possible to do so, I would kiss you.

(I am also assuming that Max is not short for “Maxine”)

  6. bryan says:

Max, you should be a speech writer. That was inauguration address standard.

  7. Bruce Henry says:

Run for office in NC, Max. I’d vote for you.

The Cons have been painting Obama as a self-proclaimed messiah ever since it became clear he had a real shot at winning. The logic follows that anyone who votes Obama is an irrational simp bowing before his cult of personality.

Personally, I voted Obama primarily because I had to leave the United States to find a decent paying job. And I’m happy where I am now, but really, what’s irrational about realizing how badly the Republicans have mangled our economy?

And there are other issues, but here it is: this master’s degree holding American wants adults to be making financial and foreign policy decisions again, not the faith-based platitudes of the Republican Party (i.e., “the fundamentals of our economy our strong,” “we will be greeted as liberators,” “cake-walk,” etc.).

I was talking to my sister on the phone this weekend, and she was wondering why there were so many McCain flags in our part of PA and not many Obama flags. Her theory was that the “empty” yards are probably the Obama people.

I agreed and added that Democrats don’t worry too much about flags because we’re not fanatics like the Repubs.

In my part of conservative PA, people really think electing Obama will be the end of the world, or as near to it as not to matter. It’s about race with them. How do I know? Because they make a big show about how it’s NOT about race. God-damned backwards thinking.

Thanks, bryan. And I agree: It would rock if Obama’s inauguration address included the phrase “dry your panties.”

  11. bryan says:

Max, it would be even better if he said (like in O’dub’s picture) “Chill the fuck out! I got this!” :)

  12. datadave says:

    messiah, Smishnya, wtf.

Obama’s been fairly low key and humble even if he has a somewhat annoying tilt to his head that gives some people ideas that he is haughty. He’s thoughtful! And that makes him so much more than what Republicans have given us.

Me, I still blame Reagan. Now there was a Messiah. He thought he was god and the middle class has seen it’s waters parted ever since with incomes going down whenever a Reaganite comes into office.
