Speaking of endorsements, I liked Jonathan Alter on Colbert last night. Mentioning O.W. Holmes’ assessment of Alter’s biographical subject, Holmes said F.D.R. had a “second-rate intellect but a first-rate temperament.” Alter pointed out that Obama went one better with a “first-rate intellect AND a first-rate temperament.”

I can remember when the Times endorsed AHEAD OF the Washington Post, the LA Times, the Chicago Trib, etc., ie, was a leader.

Seriously. Nothing like jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve got far more respect for those people/newspapers/organizations that made endorsements long ago than for any of those who are finally saying something when there’s only a couple of weeks to go.

The Timid Gray Lady finally commits, having initially endorsed TWO opposing candidates during the primaries, Hillary and McCain, God forbid any advertisers or political parties feel left out.

I think the Dallas Morning News is the largest paper by circulation to endorse McCain so far. Though, I imagine McCain will receive as many endorsements from major newspapers as Obama does from Small Business Associations. They’re preaching to two completely different choirs.

This election America is going to elect the best man for President. The best man to fix America and the best man to repair America’s reputation abroad. America’s about to elect the best man to set America on a successful path for the next generation. The best man – who happens to be black – here in America, MY real America. Priceless.

An election four hundred years in the making. I’m so proud of my country – IF I was black I think I’d near explode. What the heck – I might just do it anyway!
