John McCain and the Republican National Committee reported having a combined $84 million as of last week to spend before Election Day, according to reports filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.
McCain, who has accepted public financing for his campaign, is restricted in his spending. As of Oct. 15 he had more than $25 million in hand, but more than $1 million debts. The RNC, which has been helping his candidacy, had more than $59 million in the bank.
At McCain’s spending rate of $1.5 million a day, the Arizona senator likely has only $12 million to spend in the next 11 days before the Nov. 4 election.

Oh yeah! I used that same image in a comment on kos last week I think it was. We’re going to run the Republicans down just like Bane did to Batman during that story. Then we’ll break them for a generation.
Start auctioning off those pricey Mooselini outfits…
Are you relating McCain to the Dark Knight? I hope not! I like Batman.
“Obama was stupid to opt out of public financing”-Patrick Ruffini
This makes me want to donate even more dough to Obama.
Patrick Ruffini. What a joke.
Why in the world didn’t Sen. McCain opt out as well? Surely he could have raised more than the public system allowed him.
Surely he could have raised more than the public system allowed him.
That’s sort of a question. During the primaries, Sen. McCain didn’t do nearly as well as Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton. Considering the time he would have to put in glad-handing to get to $84 million, it was probably in McCain’s best interest to take public financing.
At this point in time, there are far more Dems willing to donate than Republicans.
Well, when you’re engaged in massive online credit card fraud, funds don’t tend to be a problem.
“Well, when you’re engaged in massive online credit card fraud, funds don’t tend to be a problem.”
You are a fucking liar. I will be so glad when you and your party becomes a relic of history.
Well, no doubt this netted him a few bucks.
Can I just say that I’m not at all comfortable with Obama as Bane?
Not the moral implications so much as it looks really, really weird.
And I don’t feel comfortable with McCain as Batman. Think of it as an allegorical image not of the presidential campaign, but rather of the state of the two national parties. The party of “criminals are a superstitious cowardly lot” and been driven to exhaustion and has no new ideas. They’ve been drained. Then, the juggernaut that (shockingly) is the modern Democratic party steps in and cracks ‘em over its knee.
At this point in time, there are far more Dems willing to donate than Republicans.
Makes sense. I was kind of going off the cliche of the Republicans having deeper pockets and loads of big donors off which to draw. Plenty of their usual rank-and-file supporters do seem ready to hibernate for a little while – a few friends of mine are voting for a guy named Chuck Baldwin, of the Constitution Party. He’s got the support of the local talk radio and wingnut alternative press in this area.
CSS, perhaps you can point to me where Obama’s campaign did their FEC-required due diligence in ensuring that no phony, illegal and/or untraceable donations were made. Beforehand.
Instead, they went out of their way to remove the standard safeguards that prevent fraud.
I’ve linked to proof to back up my allegations. You haven’t.
Is it anything like a giant cell phone tower on his property Farris?
Also, someone debunked your accusation in the comments.
midderpidge,
If you’re talking about the commenter “RHOmea” who says that any donation made with falsified info will be rejected, I’d point them (and you) to here, where someone tried the same experiment and actually had the charge go through.
If you’re talking about the commenter who says “There’s other, easier ways to commit fraud” … well … that’s not exactly a debunking so much as a helpful tip.
“I’ve linked to proof to back up my allegations.”
No you didn’t, you fucking liar.
You posted a link that alleges there is possibility the potential for maybe something could not be 100% kosher. Yet you claimed Obama was engaged in massive online credit card fraud.
Goddamnit, man. What you claimed and the evidence you presented were miles apart, but you are so fucking stupid, or so fucking dishonest, that you can’t tell the difference.
No… It’s both. You are so fucking stupid and so fucking dishonest that you can’t tell the difference between your original claim and the evidence presented. This is why you are a Republican.
Obama (and his campaign) had to remove the standard, default settings in order to facilitate this fraud. Had Obama done NOTHING, the default security checks would be enabled and the system would have caught it.
But it didn’t. Because Obama SPECIFICALLY disabled it. If you didn’t have your idealogical blinkers on, you’d see that this is, at the very least, a questionable judgement by the campaign.
Blinkers are the doohickeys that go *blink blink* when you want to turn your car. I think you meant “ideological blinders.”
Actually, SEVERAL people in the comments section of the blog you linked to debunked your allegations. You guys are just laying the groundwork for 8 years of whining about a “stolen election,” the same thing you’ve accused Democrats of for the last 8. The difference is, the FL election in 2000 really WAS stolen. This one won’t be.
“Obama (and his campaign) had to remove the standard, default settings in order to facilitate this fraud.”
And another lie.
It’s like you are incapable of determining what is and is not reality.
Another reason why you are a Republican.
I get the meaning of the image but, really? Obama as the obsessed killer bulked up by MASSIVE drug use and obsessed with beating his enemy just to show he can, and McCain as the protector of the common man who was finally overcome despite fighting heroically?
If you didn’t have your idealogical blinkers on, you’d see that this is, at the very least, a questionable judgement by the campaign.
Right. Like picking a n00b to be your VP and giving her a blank check to go shopping with.
You really don’t have much of a firm footing when you talk about judgment, Farris.
Well, when you’re engaged in massive online credit card fraud, funds don’t tend to be a problem.
So based on Mouthbreather Daily Newz, a bunch of The Slow gin up a names, submis on-line contributions, under the fraudulent names, has it accepted, and claims it’s fraud?
It is. By the donor.
While giving money to Obama in the process.
-Ooof! I hit myself! More please!
The view must suck from Mom’s basement.
Only McCain received an entie cell phone tower as a campaign contribution.

Ooooh, that’s full of win. Try it a couple more times with bigger amounts.
