Thus far I’ve only been able to locate one field office for McCain in this entire state.

Why would Republicans waste their time with field offices when voter suppression is so much cheaper and effective?

Oh, and as a quick aside, reading the Al Giordino reference over at 538 reminded me about field offices.

I did a quick search and Obama has forty field offices up and running in Virginia. Thus far I've only been able to locate one field office for McCain in this entire state.

Hey Oliver,

Okay, I live in South East Virginia, the Hampton Roads area, so I guess that makes us the "real" Virginia as opposed to the fake, commie, pinko Virginia up north.

But still, the volunteer work here is phenomenal.

I've worked at my local field office twice now (which, I remind you, is tough for me to do because I have people fear), and both times it was just a great experience. I mean the passion and the excitement and the urgency that each of the people working in this office is palpable and it's inspiring.

It's even more inspiring considering that they are working this hard in a historically Republican district.

Anyway, I called up the office as soon as it opened this morning, ostensibly to confirm that I will be working with them on election day as soon as I've finished voting myself, and I just couldn't help myself.

I had to tell the lady I was on the phone with that she and her team have been doing a wonderful job, and that I'm really proud of them. It's because of these people that a state that should be a safe McCain state is now in the Strong Obama category with a 9 point lead in his favor.

These really are the people that are making it happen, and to them I'm grateful.

A more apt historical analogy would be the brave students from SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) and others who launched the legendary "Freedom Summer" organizing drive not Dr. King and his staff. This analogy, however, fails too because folks working on Obama campaign in Virginia are not literally placing their lives and freedom (from incarceration) at risk.
