Al Qaeda For McCain?

Just sayin’.

Al-Qaeda is watching the U.S. stock market’s downward slide with something akin to jubilation, with its leaders hailing the financial crisis as a vindication of its strategy of crippling America’s economy through endless, costly foreign wars against Islamist insurgents.

And at least some of its supporters think Sen. John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to continue that trend.

‘Al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming election,’ said a commentary posted Monday on the extremist Web site al-Hesbah, which is closely linked to the terrorist group. It said the Arizona Republican would continue the ‘failing march of his predecessor,’ President Bush.

Not that we should care one way or the other when our enemies give us advice, but in 2004 when al Qaeda made noise that Kerry was who we should choose, the Republicans said “See! He’s the weak on terror candidate!”

Meaning this year they’ll say “They’re just saying McCain is a weaker opponent to trick us into choosing Obama, who will give them back rubs and send them white babies to convert to Islam.”

But, y’know, I could be wrong.

  2. Pete says:

I seem to remember though in 2004 that it was simply asserted that ‘Al Qaeda would support Kerry’ – there weren’t actually any quotes etc. to back it up.

It’s not Al_Qaeda that we should be concerned about at this point in the campaign.

The real menace is Cooter Obama.

I know what your aim is here, Oliver, and I totally agree with you, but seeing a headline that reads like a Rovian scare tactic made me shudder.

  9. Matthew says:

So what are we, an hour out from the “I think we really know who bin Laden supports *coughobamaisamuslimcough*” press release from Steve Schmidt?

  10. Syco says:

    But Obama is a muslim.

Just look at his name and skin tone. only Muslims look like that.

No witty rejoinders from the J’s?

    What’s up with that?

Al Qaeda is not stupid. They recognized that they don’t have the army to defeat the U.S., so they used a technique that was instrumental in destabilizing the Soviet Union. They spend probably about $1 for every $1,000 we spend on fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They recognize that they cannot fight a pitched battle so they intermittently attack in hopes of getting us to spend more.

It is not like this policy was a mystery. Osama wrote about it and has executed it since 2001. We have been ruled by idiots who thought they could “win” in this environment and still believe that we can “win.” As long as we have bed-wetters here in the U.S. who still believe this, we are going to suffer.

  13. Jaime says:

z adura, I agree with you. They are definitely not stupid.

I heard about this story on CNN earlier today actually and they said it was announced on Al Jazeera that Al Qaeda supports McCain because he’ll keep fighting the war and bankrupting the country on it as long as he deems necessary. Pretty scary thought.

  14. Syco says:

well would it be great if we had a president who didn’t think the enemy was stupid.
