Retreat, Retreat, Retreat

McCain campaign trying to figure a way to win without Colorado. The problem is, there really is not a way for them to win without Colorado.

The McCain campaign is looking at an Electoral College strategy heading into the final two weeks that has virtually no room for error and depends heavily on a dramatic comeback in Pennsylvania, which hasn’t backed a Republican for president in 20 years.

While Iowa, New Mexico and Colorado are still officially listed as McCain target states, two top strategists and advisers tell CNN that the situation in those states looks increasingly bleak. Iowa and New Mexico always have been viewed as difficult races, but the similar assessment of Colorado reflects a dramatic shift for a campaign that had long counted on the state.

‘Gone,’ was the word one top McCain insider used to describe those three states.

  1. O- sans Colorado or Virginia, “Old Navy” is toast. Maybe they can trot out Rev. Wright…Oh, I forgot- voters already know about Rev. Wright.

    Oh well, there’s always 2012.

I guess they forgot to tell the 22,000 that showed up in Grand Junction yesterday to hear a 15 minute speech from Sarah Palin.

Yes, brilliant appearance in Colorado, Marty:

In an interview with KUSA in Colorado, Palin responds to the following question:

Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, “What does the Vice President do?”

PALIN: That’s something that Piper would ask me! … [T]hey’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

    Yeah.

Those 22,000 out on the west slope will totally blow away the vote here in Denver.

Get real, Marty. According to the story, McCain staffers are losing hope for Colorado. Their pessimism is based on polling data, not on the number of people who show up at a rally.

(P.S., OW: According to Malkin, this story is an attempt at Voter suppression!! Yarg! Fleen!! by the eeeevil Em Ess Em!)

  5. First of all, the number is from the local party. Considering the track record it was probably closer to 12k. That doesn’t change the fact that McCain staffers are telling people they’re pulling out.

A frustrated Colorado could not be reached for comment.

22,000? Phfft, is that the best you can do?

    Amateurs.

  8. Colorado Dave says:

As much as I would like to believe otherwise Colorado will be a nail-bitter.

This is no time to get overconfident. Denver and Boulder alone were not enough to deliver Colorado to Kerry (even though Salazar won in ‘04).

It is not over and we still need to Get out the Vote!

  9. Denver and Boulder alone were not enough to deliver Colorado to Kerry

Yeah, it ain’t just Denver and Boulder, thank God.
