McCain Agrees That Western Pennsylvania Is Racist.. I Think

Caution, senior candidate speaking:
Murtha’s comments here have been really dumb, but not as incoherent as McCain.

Wow. Senior moment, big time.
Dang. He really *is* just like Bush.
Oliver, I’ve lived in central-western PA for nearly 50 years, and Jack Murtha only spoke truth about the area’s racism. It is real, it is virulent and it’s not going away any time soon. The ratio of ‘stars and bars’ to ‘Old Glories’ is probably only higher in the deepest south. James Carville called it right when he dubbed PA as Philly in the east, Pittsburgh in the west and Alabama in the middle. Did you not see the fool with the monkey and the Obama sticker at a McCain/Palin rally in Johnstown? That is not an aberration(sp?) here, but a frequent laugh-getter among “the boys” and their women. Even in the more “enlightened east” of the state, have you not seen the discrimination against Latinos and the outright racism exhibited in the Scranton area? With all due respect, Oliver, pretending that blatant racism is not endemic in rural PA is hiding your head in the sand. Racism needs to be called out for what it is, and those who encourage or support it need to be held accountable by all.
Painful.
You would have to REALLY hate Obama to vote for this shattered, withered relic of a once-robust criminal moron.
Pitiful.
It was bad enough that he tried to make Obama responsible for what someone else said. But then he couldn’t even drive his point home.
As someone who is not going to be voting for McCain, let’s give the guy a break. We all misspeak.
This is almost as bad as “57 States”.
I’m going to agree with brom bones here, I live in Pittsburgh and to the south of us is a little county called Washington county which hosts one of the highest concentrations of Klan members in the country. Murtha might have been understating some of the racism.
“This is almost as bad as 57 states”.
Actually, McCain’s misspeaking here is, if not worse, at least funnier, since it involves confirming a viewpoint he was actually attempting to condemn.
Wow. People are just going to overlook this? Gaffe? Are you fucking kidding me?
