14 Days To Go
Tweet
Ann Nixon Cooper, 106 years old, has seen presidents come and go in her lifetime and has outlived most of them. On a sunny fall morning, she left her weathered but well-kept Tudor home in Atlanta, Georgia, to vote early — this time for Barack Obama.
The African-American centenarian remembers a time not long ago when she was barred from voting because of her race. Now she hopes to see the day that Obama is elected as the nation’s first black president.
“I ain’t got time to die,” Cooper said with a smile.
“Even if he didn’t win, I was happy for him just to be nominated,” said the former socialite. “The first black president — isn’t that something, at 106 years old?”

Keep so busy workin’ fer de Kingdom,
Keep so busy workin’ fer de Kingdom,
Ain’t got time to die.
‘Cause when I’m feedin’ the po’,
I’m workin’ fer de Kingdom,
When I’m feedin’ the po’,
I’m workin’ fer de Kingdom,
When I’m feedin’ the po’,
I’m workin’ fer de Kingdom,
Ain’t got time to die..
I just looked up the lyrics to that song, and I love it!
(not to jinx him, but) I’ll expect to SEE her on camera at Obama’s inauguration.
But she’s a former socialite!
With this woman and the 106 year old nun , Obama seems to have a lock on the 104-108 year old female vote. Niche campaigning works! Huzzah!
Maybe John Kerry will joke about her wearing Depends adult diapers. That would be a laugh riot eh?
The difference is this woman is far more ready to serve than McCain.
I love it when the Wall Street announces the Obama/Democratic agenda: Rebuilding America after decades of Republican/Conservative neglect (my title) Sounds Good. I think the WSJ thinks it’s dire or something.
Salute to the Lady, and Obama’s grandma. Seeing President Obama is a balm for old age and many other ills too.
My two favorite interpretations of this great spiritual were performed by the Howard University Spiritual Chamber Choir for the Smithsonian series Wade In the Water compiled by Berniece Reagon Johnson, the former leader of Sweet Honey in the Rock, and Kathleen Battle and the guitarist Christopher Parkening for their album <Pleasures of Their Company.

That’s not true according to the latest poll I saw. According to it, only 38% planned to vote for Obama, while 18% were going for McCain. The other 44% were planning on being dead before election day.
Makes me cry. Good on her.
Not to sound crass, but I’d like it if she’d vote early.
I should read the whole thing before commenting.
