By Rush’s logic shouldn’t more people be questioning Joe Lieberman, after all he was okay with Democratic Canidates until a Black man came along, and then he had to back the white guy– why if Powell’s endorsement is suspect do to race, isn’t Lieberman’s choice given the same scrutiny?

Let’s see – in 1996, Powell gave a rousing speech to the Republican convention while endorsing Bob Dole, a war veteran who, unlike McCain, did not make his war experience the center-piece of his campaign. In 2000, Powell gave his endorsement to George W. Bush, and enthusiastically entered his cabinet. He played the good soldier, and kept his concerns about the lead up to the Iraq war out of the press. And for that, he was given bogus intel to present to the U.N., because he had the best reputation in the cabinet.

So after supporting two white men, Powell, supports a black guy named Obama, and Rush jumps to “It’s cause they’re both black!”

This campaign can’t end soon enough.

I think Powell’s endorsement couldn’t have been more eloquent and well-considered if it had been scripted. It was perfect, including the parts about McCain’s repulsive and shameful campaign, the “silliness” of the Ayers smear. Powell was absolutely unambiguous, separating his pride in a man of African ancestry contending for the White House–which he expressed long ago–and his actual endorsement of Obama today.

Nothing he could have said would have dissuaded Oink-oink from his racial rant.

Of course Powell “explained” his reasons for backing Obama. He had to, since the question of race is involved.

He should’ve stayed quiet. This might make more white voters than ever question what everyone’s priorities should be in the election booth. Stupid move.

Is there any part of that that makes sense? Just on example:

Rush: Rush Limbaugh said Colin Powell’s decision to get behind Barack Obama appeared to be very much tied to Obama’s status as the first African-American with a chance to become president.

“Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,” Limbaugh wrote

First, Powell spent 7 minutes explaining what he thought of both candidates, providing specific examples and explaining in some detail the reasoning behind his decision to vote for Obama.

Second, and more telling, Rush says Powell’s decision is very much tied to race. Rush writes that Powell himself said that is not the case. So we should believe what Rush says about what Powell thinks more than Powell’s own words?
