So, lemme get this straight. John McCain, the co-author of our campaign finance laws (something he never takes credit for in front of his rallies…) is now complaining because Sen. Obama has had historic success raising money for his campaign? Not only is it kind of ridiculous – Obama’s strategy is a direct outgrowth of the restrictions McCain-Feingold put on fundraising – using the McCain standard it would mean that the first person to “buy” a campaign would be George W. Bush, when he side-stepped the financing limits in the primaries in 2000 when he beat… John McCain.
McCain is just ticked because we’re not being suckers, like in past years.
Obama’s fund raising is making me nervous.
The reason the “right” was so powerful (still is) is that all the Fundy churches goose stepped their members to the polls. After seeing how successfully Obama’s “everyman” campaign is getting amazing money – I’m afraid these guys are going to start a “tithe” their members $20 a month, or so, every month, every year, to fund their Repugnant “god hates fagg*ts” culture wars.
Unless we end up with some form of “campaign funding control/restrictions/whatever” I fear every American will soon be giving money every month – year round – to “his party of choice.”
Obama has collected over $600,000,000.00 !!!!!! since he began his run in the primaries – that is mind boggling money – obscene money. We really have to look at campaigns that run for TWO YEARS!!! That is truly crazy.
What are we going to do? Hope that Barack has a good idea – knowing him I’m sure he will.
Is it November 4th yet?
Willard Scott should announce McCain’s name as being the world’s oldest whiny ass titty baby
.6 Billion to become president seems a bit steep to me.
If you add in all the funds from all the campaigns, it’s an immoral use of money. Say 1.2 Billion of American’s hard earned cash going to pick who leads us? Insane.
Obama is showing us why the republicans want middle class america stomped out – we CAN move mountains….and the republicans will do ANYTHING in their power to make us go to sleep again.
Maybe this money will convince the Republicans that we need strict campaign reform. Actually encode in the law that there is a difference between free speech and commercial speech.
Obama has received nearly 50% of his contributions from unknown donors. And he refuses to disclose his sources under $200, while McCain will. McCain will scare people into thinking Obama is hiding something. And he probably is.
$600 million, crowds of 100,000, fawning media coverage from NBC and the NY Times, yet Obama is only a few points ahead in the polls. He should be ahead by 15. If Obama does not pull ahead by 15 by Saturday, I don’t know who will win this.
Lets be honest if there is one group of people who know how to take money from hard working americans it is politicans.

With a black liberal like Obama running, McCain should be running even, or better. If McCain does not pull within 2 points by Saturday, he just might not win it.
Lets be honest if there is one group of people who know how to take money from hard working americans it is politicans.
By taxes. Donations to campaigns are voluntary. Politicians don’t “take” them.
I’m from NY originally. I remember Dinkins vs. Guiliani in 1993. Dinkins had 6 points in the polls until election day. Dinkins lost by a narrow margin. Black candidates tend to be overestimated.
My family is life long NY democrats, and kind of worried McCain will somehow steal this.
