Election Theft Watch: West Virginia
Tweet
Voting machine keeps switching Obama votes to McCain votes. Does anyone have a single instance of a voting machine erring in favor of a Democrat? In all the years of this issue popping up, I’ve never seen one.

I’ve not heard of any accounts of votes flipping to the Dem side. It may have happened, but when you read multiple stories of this kind of thing happening, and all report votes switching to Repubs, the reasonable conclusion is that it isn’t just a random problem with the machines.
What gets me just as much is the response that seems to come up when reports of vote flipping occur.
The typical reaction from poll workers and those charged with maintaining the integrity of the voting systems always seems to start with the assumption that the machines work properly and the problem must have been with the voter.
A simple paper trail solves this problem. It’s simple.
This is exactly what we’ve been talking about for the past 4-8 years. This is not surprising in the least.
What can we do about it? More articles like this – for one, but who do we bring our complaints and cases to? Can a class action case against the manufacturer’s of these machines be brought to court? Before the election? It seems like anything to do with legal proceedings takes forever.
Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood said on Saturday that he is upset there are “so many negative stories out there and not enough positive ones.
The reason you get fewer positive stories is that it should be expected that voting machines and the electoral process in general are running properly.
It’s like sound engineering in film–you only really notice it when somebody completely fucks it up.
One would think that the certain networks who have been doing around-the-clock reporting on ACORN would now do round-the-clock reporting on voting machines, especially considering that voting machine irregularities are a more immediate threat to democracy than individuals attempting registration fraud for financial purposes. One might even expect some sort of discussion about the comparative analysis. RIGHT? RIGHT?

Exactly. And it is simple.
Hell, I get a receipt everytime I pump gas. Nobody can reasonable claim providing a paper audit trail isn’t exceedingly easy.
The only reason to someone could have to be opposed to it is that they don’t want the audit trail. And the only explanation for not wanting an audit trail, is that you want to be able to cheat.
Went to a lecture by Ore. Sec. of State Bill Bradbury a couple years back; he made the paper trail point repeatedly and emphatically. I find it rather startling that after Florida ’00, we could still have any of these issues. I know that was a different issue (paper ballot v. machine), but still. Effing work it out people.

This was linked somewhere else but I thought it should be again. Democracy for sale.
