Well at least he didn’t mush around

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat’s ‘ability to inspire’ and the ‘inclusive nature of his campaign.’‘I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Sen. Barack Obama,’ Powell said on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’
Powell said he was concerned about what he characterized as a recent negative turn of Republican candidate Sen. John McCain’s campaign, such as the campaign’s attempts to tie Obama to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.
‘I think that’s inappropriate. I understand what politics is about — I know how you can go after one another, and that’s good. But I think this goes too far, and I think it has made the McCain campaign look a little narrow. It’s not what the American people are looking for,’ he said.
I’ve still got lots of problems with Gen. Powell’s role in the Iraq war, but he’s a widely admired figure in U.S. politics.

I CAN’T WAIT till the freepers and rethugs start tossing around the “These people stick together!”
But truth to be told this doesn’t matter a hill of beans.
Better late than never.
As I said on another blog, even if these just eats up a few news cycles, it will hurt McCain at a time he needs to be closing the gap.
McCain needs to eat into Obama’s lead by a margin of 0.3% per day (at least according to Polster.com). Even if he does do exactly that, he’ll still have a 60% to 70% chance of losing it.
[...] Something like this … [...]
Freepers are already slinging the dirt around (color me shocked–no pun intended).
At least we now know that Powell is also an anti-American socialist terrorist.
As I commented on Doghouse Riley’s execellent (in spite of being pro-Clinton) blog, I don’t want to sneer at Powell, for whom I have a very low respect. I wanna crush the Repubs this year. Each of these defections by somebody I don’t respect is a bit of the crumbling of the Republican enterprise, and it’s a self-catalyzing reaction, as they said in Chem 101.
When that’s done, I can cheer on the new loyal opposition, which President Obama will probably encourage, building on a handful of survivors. Among them will not be McCain, whom I once actually saw in that light.
[...] Colin Powell For Obama [...]
But… but… isn’t this the same guy who “lied us into Iraq?”
Amazing how backing the right guy can erase the years the Left spent hating and villianizing Powell.

But… but… isn’t this the same guy who “lied us into Iraq?”
Sure is, and because of that he’s an icon of the right whose judgment on foreign affairs has been deemed worthy of immense respect. Now the former general and SoS says that Obama is the better qualified candidate to be CiC. How does a principled conservative who has assigned all this credibility to Powell react?
He says, “Isn’t this guy all the bad stuff I have been saying he wasn’t for such a long time?
I love the smell of wingnut brains melting in the morning, like yours just did.
Smells like something you can’t find in Iraq with a hundred WMD search teams.
Smells like…ahhh!
Victory.
True “Maverick” Republican, Colin Powell: Enough With The Misleading Campaign Ads — I’m Voting For Barry Obama…
And That’s Not All The Former GOP Four-Star General Said Either…
Señor “Panama Juan” Sidney McCain has just been stabbed in the back (Source: CNN) by a long-time “friend” of twenty-plus years, dating back to when …..
But… but… isn’t this the same guy who “lied us into Iraq?”

Um, what part of “I’ve still got lots of problems with Gen. Powell’s role in the Iraq war, but he’s a widely admired figure in U.S. politics.” don’t you understand?
Keep on flailing, objectively pro-racist asshole Jay Tea.

Only thing I smell is millions of Republicans having a simultaneous irritable bowel syndrome flare-up.
Yes, yes it is, and he will never be forgiven for that. Unlike the right, though, we on the left are capable of understanding that someone can be on the “other side”, even do something terrible in their name, and still do or say something good in the future.
Mccain is no good to the bone he has played a part in all that has happened and is too too old for the job and his running mate should keep her new job on snl as she is better at that and i suggest that all americans take a look at veit nam vetrans against John Mccain and see the real man
