Times are tough for us actual genuine socialists. Not only has the political balance, particularly in the Anglophone world, slid far enough to the right to all but exclude our ideology from having any mainstream influence, but we keep getting cited as an example of hideous, corrupt, oppresive politics to compare with Nazism or Stalinism. And no-one seems to know what we genuinely believe.

If it weren’t for the fact that the First Amendment protects ignorant speech too, I’d want to create a mandate that anyone who says “Obama is a socialist” be required to define what “socialism” is, and be fined $5 (like for cussing) if it doesn’t even approximate any of the definitions found in the dictionaries to which the Supreme Court regularly cites (e.g. Oxford English, American Heritage, Webster’s, Random House, etc.).

I require that it be a dictionary used for legal purposes because there probably is a Rush Limbaugh dictionary that defines socialist as “anyone more liberal than El Rushbo,” which seems to be the popular definition among the modern generation of conservatives. Didn’t Joe claim to be an undecided independent? Except for that part he left out, about being a registered Republican who voted for McCain in the March GOP primary…

Sorry Joe got outed, but if he hadn’t tried to play everybody for fools (instead of just McCain’s team, who swallowed it hook, line, and sinker), the fisking would have been ineffective, and Joe’s story might actually have swayed a few voters.

You know, this would have a certain amount of appeal as some sort of right-wing version of Lewis Black, but I have a feeling that this guy lacks the self-awareness for that and takes this whole thing way too seriously. He has a “Questions about Obama’s citizenship” rant, too.

You can bet everyone loves this guy at the Thanksgiving table when he’s screaming about whatever he saw on the Drudge Report the week before.
