McCain Campaign: Northern Virginia Isn’t “Real” Virginia

Because, you know they’ve got all those Democrats and minorities in Northern Virginia. Yesterday Sarah Palin said some states were pro-America and some weren’t. Now they’ve ratcheted it up so that even within some states the residents aren’t “real” Americans.

These people make me sick.

As a resident of fake virginia, I’m a little miffed.

that said, if DC ever got statehood, I’d beg them to take us with them so I can’t complain to much.

  2. Bendra says:

I live in southern Virginia and I know that feeling. However, as an ex-New Yorker, my attitude is “f**k ‘em”. More of us are invading Hampton Roads daily. Obama is gonna get some support from us anti-(moron) Americans.

  3. Just John says:

“Northen Virginia is really Metro DC”?
At least she didn’t call us Maryland.

  4. Duros Hussein 62 says:

You heard it here from Nancy Phfartknocker!

    Insulted yet?

    Republicans answer right now!

    LMAOOOOOO!!!

    Sorry, I’ll tone it down.

  5. Travis says:

I now live in currently “Real” Southern Virginia.
I used to live in “Real” North Carolina.
Now I am glad to hear that “Real” NC may really go for Obama.
Does that mean my former real home is not (may not be after Nov. 4th) real anymore?

I’ve voted against my listed party affiliation for years hoping that one day (a day that never came) that they would live up to the ideals they profess. There is now a “D” by my name. As a former Republican, does that also mean I am a former real person?

    and now:
We don’t live in real places, or vote for real candidates (by their definition), while the ignorant avoid real issues… I suppose that if it isn’t a vote for Ignorance (McCain-Palin), it’s not a real vote either.

  6. Virginia ain’t cool enough to be Maryland.

    The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports:

An early October Times-Dispatch poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. showed voters in Southwest Virginia preferred McCain to Obama, 54 percent to 39 percent, with 7 percent undecided.

Statewide, recent polls have shown Obama running anywhere from statistically even with McCain to 10 points ahead.

  9. z_adura says:

Well, if Northern Virginians are no longer “real” Americans, does this mean we can stop subsidizing all their farms, road construction and other government entitlements? I know they are predominantly white, but they are still gettin’ more than they give.

  10. Parthenon says:

This campaign is circling the drain. Knocking on death’s door. Etc.

  11. Cougar says:

WELL … the one McCain supporter I encountered while canvassing for Obama, Warner, and Feder today in Ashburn, Northern “Virgnia”, may be surprised to know that he’s living in FAKE VIRGINIA.

  12. A.R.Yngve says:

Future Congressional hearing: “Are you now, or have you ever been, Anti-American? Do you have urban friends?”

History does repeat itself. Except it’s not really that funny.

  13. ed says:

WELL … the one McCain supporter I encountered while canvassing for Obama, Warner, and Feder today in Ashburn, Northern “Virgnia”, may be surprised to know that he’s living in FAKE VIRGINIA.

Thanks for the help, Cougar. We still need GOTV help in Virginia, people! We’ll take all comers.

  14. PG says:

In fairness, this isn’t nearly as offensive as Allen’s “welcome to America” remark was. Half the Northern Virginians I know (and I went to UVa, so I know a lot of ‘em) used to identify themselves as being from D.C. when they went out of state because they didn’t want to be identified with the stereotypes of hick Southerners. I once suggested that Northern Virginia secede from the rest of Virginia (as West Virginia did to avoid joining the Confederacy) and keep Charlottesville the way West Germany kept West Berlin. The trouble with that plan is that Northern Virginia expands toward the rest of Virginia. You used to be able to mark the end of NoVA when you were driving on 66 West from DC and saw the NRA building. Now it might go all the way to the gun store with the fiberglass bear on top.

    Maryland: Formstone
    Virginia: Monticello

    Maryland: Chesapeake Bay Bridge
    Virginia: Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

    You were saying?

  17. Just John says:

First Joe (not a plumber) McCain calls us a “Communist Country”.
And now Nancy Palphabet says we’re not “Real Virginia”.
Shit. I hope I can still vote.

  19. Bruce says:

    Ed:

    Maryland: Thurgood Marshall
    Virginia: Jerry Falwell

    pwned.

  20. Alex Swingle says:

Boomer Esiason played at U. Maryland, but is from Long Island and I believe he still lives there.

Bryant Stith?? Out of all the people who played at Charlottesville you pick him? Not Tiki Barber or Thomas Jones?

  21. Sean D. Martin says:

    Maryland: apples
    Virginia: oranges

    Maryland: 8 letters
    Virginia: 8 letters

You’re right, this is fun. They are exactly opposites, um, the same, um… what’s the point?

  22. [...] Virginia Real and Unreal really needs is another North vs South.  Like we all [...]

  23. Maryland: Kerry 04, Gore 00, Clinton 96
    Virginia: Bush 04, Bush 00, Dole 96

    You guys are just learning.

Plus we have two football teams. I only care about one, but we have two. :)

    Maryland: Scrapple

Wait, whoa, stop. ‘Nuff said, right there.

  25. Duros Hussein62 says:

    From fivethrityeight.com

So a canvasser goes to a woman’s door in Washington, Pennsylvania. Knocks. Woman answers. Knocker asks who she’s planning to vote for. She isn’t sure, has to ask her husband who she’s voting for. Husband is off in another room watching some game. Canvasser hears him yell back, “We’re votin’ for the n***er!”

Woman turns back to canvasser, and says brightly and matter of factly: “We’re voting for the n***er.”

    That’s progress, right?

  26. [...] “real Virginia” crack is leading the local news here. Not good for McCain at all. It’s like the Clinton [...]

  27. ed says:

Bryant Stith?? Out of all the people who played at Charlottesville you pick him? Not Tiki Barber or Thomas Jones?

The O-Will pressed is which state is cooler, and it’s hard to get cooler than Bryant Stith. Valedictorian of his high school, an offensive rebound machine, he once put in 19 straight points for the Cavhoos in a killer come from behind win against Notre Dame. The guy’s cool. Way cooler than Norman Esiason. (And Tiki and TJ are too obvious for this exercise anyway.)

  28. ed says:

    @ Bruce:

    ouch.

  29. Quaker in a Basement says:

“Northern Virginia is really Metro DC, as you’re aware, Kevin.

    That’s nice.

  30. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    “That’s progress, right?”

    That’s fucked in the head.
It is also funny, but mostly fucked in the head.

  31. Randy Brown says:

    Maryland: Thurgood Marshall
    Virginia: Jerry Falwell

Maryland: Thurgood Marshall BWI International Airport.
    Virginia: Ronald Reagan National Airport.

    Randy: nice

  33. Justin says:

Considering charlottesville the line between Nova and Sova… Let’s see Thomas Jefferson was from the real virginia, Patrick Henry is buried in brookneal, va… i live near there, real as you can get. Seriously, I take offense to idiotic campaigners who ignore the individual. McCain was a good guy up until July. I’ll admit Sova is part of the bible belt, seeing as how Jerry Falwell took up camp there way back when. Too many Republicans cant just get a vote nowadays, they seem to try and offend the other party. Ron Paul was brilliant, even Huckabee and Romney were decent people. Campaign advisers should hang up their buttons and let the candidates do the talking.
