Why is this blog such a big supporter of Sen. Obama?

This video should explain it as the Senator tells his origin.

But someone else there brought down the house.

And that is why he is the best candidate in the history of the United States.

Nimrod: Good a theory as any.

Watch the whole thing (9 mins long). Absolutely hilarious.

    My favorite line:

‘My greatest weakness…it’s possible that I’m a little too awesome.’

“Barack is Swahili for ‘That One.’”

    Funny dude.

  6. Nimrod Gently says:

“Who would have thought that a cross-dressing mayor from New York City would have a tough time running for the Republican nomination. It’s shocking. That was a tough primary you had there, John.”

McCain gave almost as good as he got, as well, which is cool, actually.

  7. Dr. Monkey says:

I thought of you the second I heard him say that.

I knew you would pick up on this line Oliver. As soon as he said it I started looking for an Obama pic with him in the superman suit on your site.

Was waiting for to catch the Kal-El reference….

  12. SpiderJ says:

They both did pretty well. McCain managed to even joke about Obama without letting his clear disdain shine through.

    Just to note the contrast:

From the right: Description of the YouTube Dennis links to: “Title says it all, McCain was awesome… Obama was a dud.”

From the left: “McCain gave almost as good as he got, as well, which is cool, actually.” (Nimrod)

There are rabid partisans on both sides, but more often than not when credit is given to the other side it’s the left that is doing it.

Somehow I knew that clip would be up on your site, Oliver. ;)

Obama’s best line was an aside to McCain that I don’t think most people in the room heard. At the end of his riff on “lipstick” Obama points out that for some reason the cross-dressing Mayor of New York City had trouble running for the Republican nomination. Barack then turned to McCain and said, “Tough primary you had there John!” =D

McCain’s best line was in the bit about nicknames: after making the obligatory joke about calling Barack “That one,” he said Obama had a pet name for him too: “George Bush.” McCain also ended very strong (after his awful anti-abortion pander) with his “expectations” set-up of Obama.

HTML is my archnemesis. I was trying to post that Alex Ross of Obama as Superman. Google it instead.

  17. essrog says:

McCain’s concluding remarks introducing Obama with “unreasonably high expectations” was surprisingly funny. Both speeches worth watching, a genuine “time out” moment

  18. Joe C from Austin says:

If the levity and good humor that is expected at the Al Smith Dinners was a requirement for all political campaigns the country would be a far happier place –and I suspect, far better governed.

Yeah, I screw images up all the time. Hoping this works:
