‘It’s disappointing, and I hope it’s a slip of the tongue and she doesn’t mean it, but she said it. It was reported she said that she likes to visit, quote, pro-American parts of the country,’ said Biden, leading into a lengthy dissection of the remarks.
‘Ladies and gentlemen, I, like your senator and governor, have been all over this great land. I’ve never been to a state, I’ve never been to a state that hasn’t sent its sons and daughters to serve and die for this country. Right here in New Mexico right now, there are 1,400 Mexican sons and daughters — New Mexican sons and daughters deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thirty-six of them have already given their lives for this country.’
‘Folks, it doesn’t matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through. We all love this country. Folks, one of the reasons why Barack and I are running is that we know how damaging the politics of division that continues to be practiced by the McCain, how damaging this policy of division has been. It’s time to put this behind us.’
‘Folks, it is not a corny thing. It’s real. We are one nation, under God, indivisible. We are all patriotic. We all love our country in every part of this country. And I’m tired. I am tired, tired, tired, tired of the implications about patriotism.’
‘Folks, that’s the reason why Barack and I are running. We are absolutely, totally, thoroughly confident that we can get through these difficult times and like every generation before us be better for it.’
This so much reminds me of how George Bush in 2004 took great pains to attack Massachusetts since Kerry is from there – as if Massachusetts isn’t one of the states George Bush is president of.
‘Folks, it doesn’t matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through. We all love this country. Folks, one of the reasons why Barack and I are running is that we know how damaging the politics of division that continues to be practiced by the McCain, how damaging this policy of division has been. Always amazes me how calling people un-american (or some such) is supposed to win votes. All the US citizens I have ever met (75% mormon through my mormon friend) have struck me as proud to be from the USA. Not the whooping, arrogant morons lazy euro critics would have you think, but just proud, proud people. Confident, warm and open. I would not dream of berating one, because it would be just rude. Why don’t your own people not realise this as well?
PS Freema in an upcoming production of ‘Little Dorrit’ by the BBC! Paddy Power (a UK bookmakers) is already paying out people who bet on a win for Obama as president. I kid you not!
But the big story on Action News is that Joe the Plumber–
Isn’t a licensed plumber,
Doesn’t make 250K a year and thus would not have a tax increase under Obama’s plan, and
OWES BACK TAXES of $1,183 to the State of Ohio, which has placed a lien on his property.
Will OW’s wingnut trolls chalk this up to just more ‘bad luck’ for McCain? Do these Republikaners understand why you should vet somebody you intend to bring up two dozen times in your nationally televised debate?
I loved Sarah Vowell’s comment on The Daily Show a week or two back to the effect of “New York was American enough for the terrorists. Why isn’t it American enough for Palin?”
Maybe she was contrasting them with those secessionist Alaskans.
And where are the Usual Suspect Trolls to defend their awesome Vice Presidential candidate?
“you’re pro-American”-Palin to black helicopter Steve
Nice pic of Joe the VP.
It’s desperation. Ever since McCain picked Palin and went negative his numbers have continued to plummet. A purely negative campaign without any sort of positive message can’t work.
But good for Joe Biden to call her out for this hate-mongering. There are plenty of “Blue State” kids fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan these days. I really doubt this makes them want to vote Republican ever again.

That was an awesome quote.
