Many many words about how college going Obama supporters working for polling companies are skewing the polls and secretly John McCain is winning. Or something.

Why are you sending us to that snoozefest?

And bluffing won’t work. And bias. And clever Hans. And a pony. And the Liberals are going to lose, and if they win, it was because people are stupid and the media is biased. But the Republicans are going to win anyway.

    Speaking of conspiracy theories:

I’m skeptical of the claims that Samuel J. Wurzelbacher — aka Joe the Plumber — was a McCain plant, or is a close relative of Charles Keating. However, it does seem to be pretty clear that he

    a) may not be eligible to be the legal owner of a plumbing business and to do plumbing, because he isn’t licensed as a plumber in the state of Ohio; and

    b) is sadly overestimating how much taxable income the business he hopes to buy makes.

Then again, I suppose in a way the GOP does appeal to people’s aspirations. “Someday, I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I’m gonna be rich enough to complain about the top income tax bracket!”

When the Czars of Russia “emancipated” the serfs in the 19th Century, and gave them tiny subsistence plots to eke out a living on, they turned them from a potential source of revolution into the most conservative segment of society.
Similarly, the “American Dream” of how everybody is Horatio Alger if they just work hard enough, keeps these people in thrall. As Carlin said, “It’s called the American Dream ’cause ya gotta be asleep to believe it.”
I think it’d be hilarious if Plumber Joe did turn out to be a plant.

There are some really great psychological experiments in there. Even if you don’t agree with the tie in with politics, it’s worth wikipedia-ing the various experiments listed there.
