They Will Believe Anything

At this point in the campaign it has become abundantly clear that the conservative media will believe anything about Sen. Obama if it seems even slightly negative. Check out this insane story with made up quotes from Michelle Obama – plainly fabricated to even the casual observer – and look at how the con media has swarmed around it.

On a related note…

Oh, oh – this one is gonna leave a mark! Those Cylon’s are seriously scary ass*oles…er…sorta like Republicans.

  2. Bruce Henry says:

Reminds me of one of those letters from a Nigerian gentleman asking for my help in recovering his money.

  3. SaveFarris says:

I’m sure you meant to say the conservative media is debunking the story.

Looks like YOU’RE the one that’ll believe anything, so long the allegation is against a Conservative/Republican.

Did you see the note they’ve added?

Now, I’m not saying that their note makes me believe them anymore than I would otherwise, but I thought you might be interested in seeing what they have to say about it

The stilted diction of these “interviews” should be a dead giveaway.

  6. SPOILER ALERT! Halfway through Season Four of Battlestar Galactica, it will be revealed that the final Cylon is… President Barack Obama, returned to unite the humans and cylons in a new golden age, fulfilling the Kobol prophecy, “All this has happened before, all this will happen again.”

I’m hpoing Obama names Tricia “Number 6″ Helfer as the nation’s first Secretary of Hawt…

SaveFarris – So the dozen and counting right or right leaning websites linked to Memeorandum who are reporting this as the gospel count as what? And their commenters who have likewise gobbled this story up whole without question, how about them? I’ll give credit to NRO for at least posting a denial from the Obama campaign, but it’s not like they did an investigation or anything to explore the veracity of the “interview”. In the end, the denial by Obama’s campaign will be seen as a coverup by those who are devouring this kind of nonsense. You know it’s true. Just like the ACORN people who keep trying to spin their massive lack of oversight by implying that the whole thing is some great right wing conspiracy to suppress the votes of poor people, this is a case of partisans who are either blind followers or believe the end always justifies the means.

  8. Sean D. Martin says:

OW, you provide a link to the API story (actually, a link to a link to the API story) and a link to a ABC story calling it “100 % Bogus”. Yet your main point that “the con media has swarmed around it” comment goes unsupported.

I don’t frequent right wing blogs so am not sure where to look, but I can’t find any mention of this story at Fox News, Redstate, Michelle Malkin or the couple of others I thought to look at.

    So, where’s the beef?

Um, the con media that was shown ON THE PAGE OW LINKED as discussing the story? Cut and pasted for your viewing pleasure:

See also the ABCNews post that OW linked that begins, ‘The conservative blogs are all atwitter about a bizarre interview allegedly with Michelle Obama on a website called “African Press International.” … This morning my inbox is filled with the “WHY ARENT YOU COVERING THIS?” emails on the subject. The answer is: because it doesn’t appear to be in any way real.’

The literacy level exhibited in the comments here is not encouraging.

    No really, who is they?

  15. SaveFarris says:

    I mean seriously

Maybe I’m dense, but what is Save Ferris trying to say with these links?

  17. Quaker in a Basement says:

what is Save Ferris trying to say with these links?

    He’s saying, “Over there! Look!”

  18. Wow, you mean when I got reports incorrect about believable things and then corrected myself? This report was the equivalent of an alien sighting and your con pals (and maybe you) bought it hook, line and sinker.

  19. Jamie says:

Because all major news organizations use a free wordpress.com account as their home page and then link to their regular site africanpress.com that is a non-registered domain (though I expect that to change very shortly). Oh and the number they say to call to verify the story – it goes to Norway. I called it and asked if it was the African Press International and the guy just hung up. But the wingnuts are still drinking that kool-aid

D’oh! I used the link on that page to get to the “story” and didn’t stop to see the stuff that was below it.

    Thanks.

  21. SaveFarris says:

OK Quaker, I’ll pick Poligazette who debunk the story without any prompting. Or any of the other 2/3rds who, like Oliver, eventually correct themselves. Or, again, I’ll point to National Review, whose first mention of it was to debunk it.

  22. Quaker in a Basement says:

How do those fresh-picked cherries taste, Farris?

  23. Bruce Henry says:

Byron York saying he called the Obama campaign and they denied it hardly qualifies as “debunking.”
