He said he planned to send an apology and retraction to the same e-mail list.

“Planned”? So he hadn’t done so yet. How long does it take? Forwarded the joke pretty fast, but the retraction is something he’ll have to take some time to get around to.

Oliver, you are so full of it:
1) John McCain hasn’t heard anything like that at his rallies. Or he condemned them if he did.
2) Barack Obama’s rallies have had the same things said about McCain. In fact, all that “cheering” you hear at Obama rallies is actually all them darkies yelling “Kill Whitey!”

And if you don’t believe me, you can ask John McCain, because his maverickyness means he never lies.

Sorry, but this is an OLD joke. I heard it about the Clintons in the 1990s (I think it was on the John Boy and Billy Big Show, a drive time radio show that is fast disappearing). I heard it again about the Bushes this decade. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was told about the Kennedys.

Problem with tagging any sort of Democratic base is finding a large enough bloc to march in lockstep.

Lack of a comprehensive base has been the Democrats’ traditional problem, Sean, like trying to herd cats. Even now you still have some of them willing to vote for McCain despite policy differences just because they won’t ever vote for Obama.

I remind the world again: “the base” in Arabic is “al-Qaida.” Being part of it is not to be desired.

McCain’s campaign really jumped the shark when he didn’t bother to try and quell the shouts to cause physical harm to a sitting Senator of the United States and presidential candidate.

The sad thing is that I’m absolutely certain that there are groups across this country right now trying to figure out exactly how to go about doing it.
