Yeah, let’s crush this guy.
‘After I whip his you know what in this debate, we’re going to be going out 24/7,’ McCain said of his upcoming debate with Obama, but seeming to consider recent criticism that his words have been too inflammatory, he quickly told supporters to be respectful.
UPDATE
AP: McCain vows to whip Obama’s ‘you know what’
Republican John McCain vowed Sunday to “whip” Democratic rival Barack Obama’s “you-know-what” when the two presidential candidates meet Wednesday in their final televised debate.
McCain made that pledge as top advisers said he is weighing new economic proposals to help the nation weather the financial crisis. The Arizona senator refused to answer a reporter’s question Sunday about what plans he might be considering.
Set phasers for stun… fire on my command.
FIRE!!!!!
The hatred and violence is getting out of hand.

“After I whip his ass…”
Doesn’t sound too presidential, does it?
Angry Johnny. Cool and collected Obama. Who’s America going to vote for?
The best thing about trash talk is what a horse’s ass the talker looks like when it doesn’t get backed up.
Which, let’s be honest, it won’t.
Dennis, did you link to a nasty site? For shame, amigo. Yer better than that.
“After I whip his you know what in this debate, we’re going to be going out 24/7″
There has to be an easier way to ask for a date.
[...] i guess i didn’t consider the potential racial undertones to aspiring to “whip” obama… but i can’t imagine mccain would consciously [...]
Given that McCain has averaged less than one appearance per day until the last 5 days, I can’t imagine that “24/7″ is even remotely within his abilities. Maybe he meant “7/24.” He’ll hold an event each day of the week for the next 24 days, including his concession speech on November 5.
white man whipping a man of color. either these images mcpalin floats are deliberate and deeply racist or they are the stupidest assholes to come down the pike since….well since “w”.
After McCain is done with the whipping Brit Hume has offered to hose Sen. Obama down.
McCain is clearly perturbed that Obama is uppity in the polls.
-GSD
You couldn’t whip Sarah’s ass, old dude. Blow it out your own.
Well, that’s what Carter said about Ted Kennedy (but not in public)
@anotherbozo:
Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980…
In today’s trading, The over/under on when McCain or Palin will let the n-word slip moved up to October 25. Seriously, whipping? Wow.
That might be an unfortunate choice of words if Obama actually had slaves in his ancestry.
24×7? This is Mr.One-Event-per-Day. He can’t stand the strain of 24 x 7. Maybe he meant that Caribou Barbie was going to be out there.
This next debate should be a thing of beauty.
“After I whip his you know what in this debate”–John McCain
If that isn’t a Wallace-ism, I don’t know what is.
“..after i tie him to the post and have my overseer whip him…”
And when Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980, was that also a Wallace-ism? Or does that not count because both parties were white?
Let’s just take a breath, folks.
I can’t wait for old McCrazy to jumble up “whipping his butt” and “give him a licking.”
You mean we weren’t holding people to the same racial standards in 1979 (learn to read a byline) that we are in 2008? I’m shocked, I say, shocked!
(Also, no, it doesn’t count, not in the same way. Just like hanging W in effigy doesn’t have the same connotations that hanging Obama in effigy does/would. It’s not rocket science.)
And when Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980, was that also a Wallace-ism? Or does that not count because both parties were white?
The latter, and, if you can’t figure out the difference, you’re an idiot.
“And when Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980, was that also a Wallace-ism? Or does that not count because both parties were white?”
Of course it’s different. Do I think McCain meant it in a racial context? No. But when a white man says he’s going to “whip” a black man it dredges up a dark, horrifying part of our country’s history. Throw in the foaming-at-the-mouth “he ain’t like us” rallies, and it’s just an incredibly stupid thing to say.
Same old McCain that was against making Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday a national holiday and called Vietnamese people gooks
“And when Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980, was that also a Wallace-ism?”
Jimmy Carter wasn’t implying Ted Kennedy was a terrorist. Jimmy Carter didn’t have campaign volunteers who took it upon themselves to send out e-mail (ok…mailers in 1980) claiming that Ted Kennedy was a ’secret muslim’ or that he didn’t have a US birth certificate. There was some common respect from both men for policy debate.
Jimmy Carter saying he was going to whip Kennedy’s butt in the 1980 debate was NOT preceded by months of racial baiting.
No…at this time John McCain MUST choose his words carefully. He hasn’t. This isn’t a white/black thing. This is an issue of decency and fair play. At this point in the race for the White House, implying a ‘whipping’ against an obvious man of color during a heated presidential race is beyond the boundary.
I have no tolerance for racism. Not today. Not any day. John McCain knows his campaign has crossed the line far too many times. He should have known better. I’m sure he does know better. But will he clean up his mess?
Boy, you best go out back and cut me a switch. It’s fer yer own good…
I think McCain will call Obama “boy” before he drops an n-bomb. The “whip his you know what” comment is just teetering on the cusp.
@Willie Buck Merle: I think that should be set phrasers at stun(ted).
mcsame would need a hospital if it actually came to blows
if all they do is talk, mcsaemwill still need his multipule naps
either way, mcsame can’t campaign 24/7
he can’t even campaign 12/7
mcsame is more like 6 hours a day, 4 days a week
I’m sure he does know better.
John McCain’s seldom the smartest guy in the room even about things with which he has familiarity. He’s absolutely tone-deaf re race (at least when it comes to blacks) because he doesn’t have any experience in that regard and because he doesn’t have to be anything else. Ever been to Arizona?
Once again, John McCain’s mouth writes a check that neither his ass nor his campaign will be able to cover…
They just never learn…
What’s with the “who’s more likely to cheat” ad? Who gives a shit?
Who’s more likely to post an inane vote ad that no one gives a shit about?
This election can’t be over soon enough. I’m tired of the crap from both Obama and McCain.
[...] John McCain Promises To “Whip” Obama [...]
daniel, what exactly are you referring to with respect to Sen. Obama? What “crap” of his are you tired of?
The blatant hate mongering by Mccain followers and within the apparent strategy used by the republican party is terrifying. This is the United States of America and cannot and should not be tolerated. That phrase used by Mccain is one more example of why I cannot vote for him. Yesterday I came across someone who actually compared him to Hitler. http://activerain.com/blogs/karenmonsour Our country will take a huge step backwards in racial and religious tolerance and peace if Mccain is voted in as our next president.
The “hate site” Oliver deleted the link to was probably Michelle Malkin’s site, because she just posted a thoroughly-documented roundup of violence and hate and attempts at intimidation aimed at McCain supporters and Republicans in general.
Naturally, I won’t link to it, but anyone who is curious can easily track down the article.
J.
i remember carter saying he would “kick”
kennedy’s ass, not “whip” it. this has a
completely different context.
(but i certainly could have misremembered).
Just once I wish a liberal would crack open a history book.
Jimmy Carter vs. Ted Kennedy: Whip his what???
Guys. Quit it with the double standard. There’s nothing wrong with trash talk. Whipping has nothing to do with actually using a whip. “I’m gonna whip his ass” is a perfectly normal thing to say if you’re trash talking. There is NOTHING AT ALL UNSEEMLY ABOUT THIS. He’s getting excited, great. I would have said the same thing. We have to stop being so sensitive about things that can be construed as racism, because, honestly, John McCain does not view Obama as anything less than a full human being, and he would never disrespect him that way. McCain might lose his temper; he might curse and utter obscenities. He might call his wife a cunt and liken her to a trollop; it doesn’t mean he hates women. It just means he was pissed off. Seriously, the man’s not racist against Barack Obama.
You might argue that his temper disqualifies McCain from the presidency. I would argue that there are plenty of other things that should disqualify him first. But using racist rhetoric is not one of them.
If we’re going to start holding candidates liable for the words and deeds of their supporters, can we blame Obama for these:
1) The break-in at the McCain/Palin offices in Kansas City.
2) The fake anthrax sent to a McCain office in Colorado.
3) The fine, upstanding citizens (who Oliver praised) who greeted Sarah Palin in Philadelphia with “SARAH PALIN IS A CUNT” T-shirts.
Personally, I’d say no, but apparently I’m playing by the old rules…
J.
Jay, once again the fine, upstanding citizens of Philadelphia demonstrate that they know their politics – and aren’t afraid to express their honest opinions.
Actually, that may have been TAME for Philly…
So, then, Randy, could you kindly give a definition of “hate speech” that covers things like have been said about Obama, but exclude those remarks against Palin?
I’ll save you your first “witty” riposte — that “truth is an absolute defense.” Calling Obama an “n-word” is also factually correct — “n-word” is a racial slur of “negro,” and Obama is in fact black. So unless you subscribe to the Robert Byrd definition of “n-word,” calling him one is as factually correct as calling Palin a “c-word.”
J.
Wearing racism on your sleeve…literally!!!
IOKIYAD!
DC Refugee: “Jimmy Carter said the same thing about Ted Kennedy in 1980…”
Does that make it more presidential?
A: No. Johnson could have said it; Dubya probably did, and worse. STILL doesn’t make it presidential. In McCain’s case, it’s only one more piece of evidence of his classlessness, smallness, commonness, and of course delusion, since we all know he won’t “whip his ass,” or even close.
And no, it wasn’t intentionally racist, just stupid and obtuse to say it about a black candidate. (Imagine McCain as Diplomat-in-Chief!) But it’s enough to hold against McCain what he knowingly MEANS: lies intended to divert emotions his followers feel about the economic disaster toward his suspicious, alien, “terrorist-loving,” “corrupt” opponent.
The difference in the misbehavior of Obama supporters vs. McCain supporters is that Obama is not, even tacitly, encouraging same.
By that I mean you don’t hear Obama or Biden impugning McCain’s or Palin’s patriotism or loyalty. You DO hear that shit from both McCain and Palin, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
“3) The fine, upstanding citizens (who Oliver praised) who greeted Sarah Palin in Philadelphia with “SARAH PALIN IS A CUNT” T-shirts.”
My browser must not be loading the page properly. Could you point out where Oliver praised the people wearing these shirts?
Or you could STFU and go back to CheezWizBang, either one is cool.
[...] that McCain brings up Ayers and/or Wright in his debate with Obama to really hoping he’ll use this line in his presence. You can leave a comment, or trackback from your own site. RSS [...]
Does Jay have ANY FUCKING PROOF WHATSOEVER that the anti-Palin people in Philly were Obama supporters? Did any of them appear at Obama’s rallies in the area (one of which attracted an estimated 20,000)? Did anyone yell out the C-word at an Obama rally?
For all we know, the anti-Palinists were prolly disgruntled Flyers fans. Hell, Obama would have been booed at a game.
‘S funny…now that the Republicans’ own flung shit is splattering back on them, they and their
butt-lickerssupporters are crying foul. Bring on the WHAAA-mbulance!!“But it’s enough to hold against McCain what he knowingly MEANS: lies intended to divert emotions his followers feel about the economic disaster toward his suspicious, alien, “terrorist-loving,” “corrupt” opponent.”
A narcissist, I quote myself. On reflection McCain/Palin’s ploy is CLASSIC demagoguery. (Political science students, take notes.) They know the crowd is scared about its economic future, housing values, gas prices, etc., as well as feeling out of touch with the postcolonial, internationalist world that has sucked up their jobs, and the Repubs are diverting those frustrations and using some cartoon of a “shady (!) Chicago politician” as a lightning rod. So far it’s worked a little TOO well–they were supposed to hold their murderous instincts INSIDE, where the press couldn’t report on them…
And now, the bastards are trying to push this “Vera Baker” story, feeding the stereotype of the oversexed black male.
The wingers get more desperate, more shrill, and more abrasive by the hour.
Listening to Obama’s upcoming victory speech, and seeing the reactions, is gonna be FUN!
By that I mean you don’t hear Obama or Biden impugning McCain’s or Palin’s patriotism or loyalty.
They are. You’re just not listening.
Ferris, you must have linked the wrong article. The one you linked doesn’t mention Palin or McCain, and doesn’t impugn anyone’s patriotism.
“uppity in the polls” Brilliant
Yeah, it’s sure nice to know that the Republicans are ‘way above such low, slimy tactics as using “cunt” to describe political opponents.
Except, of course, when they aren’t.
Ferris, you must have linked the wrong article. The one you linked doesn’t mention Palin or McCain, and doesn’t impugn anyone’s patriotism.
Actually, it does. It has McCain and Palin calling Obama & Biden’s middle class tax cuts “unpatriotic”. So Farris simply had it backwards.
The McCain-Palin campaign immediately pounced.
“Higher taxes and bigger government is not patriotic,
“They are. You’re just not listening.”
You are such a fucking retard.
I’ll be so glad when the Republicans are out of the White House, and are reduced to useless minorities in both chambers of congress.
Then when you bring up you lies and bullshit, instead of treating you like actual human beings, we can simply say, “Shut the fuck up, the adults are talking.”
Zython, that was in response to Joe Biden’s proclamation that paying higher taxes IS patriotic — as well as one’s religious obligation.
And Obama said that “I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face!”
Nope, nothing inciteful about that one…
J.
Keep on flailing Jay Tea!
Got any links to Obama and/or Biden or any other surrogate directly whipping a crowd into an angry mob or having to walk it back a la McCain? No? Got any Youtube footage of lefties saying or doing anything close to the old man with the monkey or the “it’s in his bloodlines” wingnuts? No? Then spare us the isolated and unprovable and nonequivalent examples. (Any chance those are raftuckings, by the way? Given the history of the Party of Rove, one can’t rule that out.)
But by all means keep on flailing. The party of Nixon, Atwater, Rove, and now McCain’s classy crew feeds on people like yourself. By all means, keep on equivocating. Keep up the intellectual dishonesty. Keep on deluding yourself that the McCain and Palin rallies are just jim dandy, and the black guy is the real racist. Their kind and your kind will never go away, but it’s nice to see them and you marginalized and it’s nice to know that if they and you are still out there, that they and you will periodically reveal their and your true character.
Keep on keepin’ on!
Is McCain proposing we return to lynching? I seriously doubt it, however, his mouth does him no favors!
Maybe he meant 24 “divided by” 7.
I don’t think the choice of the word ‘whip’ was consciously racially motivated, but it was certainly a poor choice of words, especially given all the other shite that’s come from various GOP elements over the course of the election (paint the white house, Lynn Chamberlain, Grover Norquist, ‘that boy,’ etc.) ‘Whip’ is pretty much a synonym for ‘kick,’ IMO. In other words garden variety trash talking.
Does Jay have ANY FUCKING PROOF WHATSOEVER that the anti-Palin people in Philly were Obama supporters?
Randy Brown
The girl wearing the T-shirt in question has her own page at the Obama-Biden website, along with a picture of her wearing that same T-shirt. Might be a bit of a clue, Randy.
You can see the her page on the Ace of Spades HQ website.
Keep flailing Dennis. Nice of you and your ilk to keep revealing yourselves, so we know what we’re up against.
From the Ace post:
In addition to HaHaHaHaHaHa—rriiiigggghhht, I add, we’ll see. I’m sure the story will break any second now.
I wonder how the McCain Truthers reconcile the immediate and vociferous booing which ensued immediately after McCain cut off the lunatic and said that Obama was a decent fellow and family man. I guess all those hateful booers were really plants from the downright evil Obama campaign.
Zython, that was in response to Joe Biden’s proclamation that paying higher taxes IS patriotic — as well as one’s religious obligation.
So what you’re saying is that you didn’t read the article you linked? OK then.
Now you people are just getting ridiculous.
To imply that Mcain saying that he will whip Obama in the debate is somehow racist is simply ridiculous.
So, I could never tell a black friend that I’ll whip him in Scrabble without being racist?
You people will use anything to forward your cause.
Simply childish.
So, I could never tell a black friend that I’ll whip him in Scrabble without being racist?
Well, no, but that’s because you don’t have any black friends.
To imply that Mcain saying that he will whip Obama in the debate is somehow racist is simply ridiculous.
…
I swear, you people would think we were grasping at straws if we called someone who wanted to repeal the 13th Amendment racist. Jesus.
Stay classy ‘pubs.
jeff says:
>You people will use anything to forward your cause.
Simply childish.
Zython responds in part with:
>Well, no, but that’s because you don’t have any black friends.
Or in other words, “nyah nyah nyah.” Way to give an example of jeff’s claim Zython, well done.
Stay on top of the story, Zython:
http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/straw_man_arguments_and_the_right_wing_hatred_meme/
The site’s owner — NOT the author — has accepted full responsibility for the posting, apologized, explained in detail what happened, and deleted the original article.
Unlike, say, Kos or the Obama site, which just talks about how they’re not responsible for all the shit that happens on their site — then deletes whatever causes them too much embarrassment in hopes that everyone will just pretend it never happened.
This is the danger of having unregulated “readers’ blogs” or “diaries.” But unlike Kos and the Obama people, Rob’s being a stand-up guy, taking responsibility and action and NOT just sweeping it under the rug.
The Kos and Obama people could learn a lesson from Rob. Bet they won’t, though.
J.
My beef was always with the author, and what he represents. I have nothing against the site owner. He didn’t even have to apologize. All he had to do was say that it was unacceptable, delete, and be done with it.
Oh Jay Tea, are you still around? You’re adorable. Hey, keep on keepin’ on defending the Palin angry mob rallies.
Oh, please, ed. You ain’t seen NOTHING like an angry mob. Remember, the NRA is firmly against your guy, and most of the gun owners in this country are solidly against him, too. Toss in a hefty majority of military, both active and retired. If they were really “angry mobs,” then you’d have a frigging body count.
No, the really angry mobs are on YOUR side of the equation. McCain signs getting firebombed. McCain offices broken into and vandalized. Fake anthrax sent to McCain offices. People showing up to Palin events wearing “SARAH PALIN IS A CUNT” t-shirts.
And it’s not just them. Bush hanged in effigy. Bush burned in effigy. Calls for his assassination. Fantasy films about him being shot. Randi Rhodes fantasizing about him being shot.
If Oliver hadn’t deleted that link to Michelle Malkins’ site (and I’ll respect his wishes and not re-post it here), you could see for yourself a huge list of crazed anti-Republicans and the violent, hateful crimes they’ve committed.
You seem to think you’ve made this astonishing breakthrough in finding some way to tie them to the Republican candidates, but it’s a complete and utter crock.
J.
How many federal buildings have been blown up by angry progressives again?
How many FBI agents have been shot while serving legal warrants?
How many Olympics bombed? Abortion clinics?
You’re right, Jay. We’re obviously the dangerous ones.
Yes, Quaker, we’ve been very lucky that your crazies are considerably more inept.
Bill Ayers’ old cronies TRIED to blow up a dance, but instead — thankfully — only blew up themselves.
They also managed to not quite kill a judge and his entire family in the middle of the night, but the did manage to kill one cop in Boston.
The far left whackoes ROUTINELY try to disrupt political conventions, international gatherings, but can never quite try to pull it off.
Ted Kaczynski DID manage to blow up a few bombs, and kill and maim a few people.
Like I’ve always said, Quaker — both sides have their crazies. To claim that either side has a monopoly is a crock. And to cry wold over a few dipshits and try to blame the political leadership for “fanning the flames of hatred” when there’s a shitload more evidence of far worse “hatred” on your own side is… I dunno.
Disingenuous?
Fraudulent?
Willful denial?
Gamesmanship?
So many terms seem to apply.
J.
No, the really angry mobs are on YOUR side of the equation.
No, the really angry mobs are on YOUR side of the equation.
I know you are
but what am I.
No backsies. Infinity.
Instead of “I’m going to whip his ass”, McCain should have said simply: “I’m going to beat him”.
thanks Oliver…just made ANOTHER $25 contribution to Obama after reading your blog…looks like Gramps has shot his last load and, yes, I’m afraid to say it but looks like he’s shooting blanks!!!
