“I knew the mob wouldn’t go down without a fight. But this is different. They crossed the line.”

  2. Sean D. Martin says:

Indeed, [McCain] just snatched the microphone out the hands of a woman who began her question with, “I’m scared of Barack Obama… he’s an Arab terrorist…”

“No, no ma’am,” he interrupted. “He’s a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements.”

It’s almost as if McCain has actually looked in a mirror, realized that his legacy will be how he’s run this campaign rather than his years of service, and is trying to recover some of his self respect.

If he keeps it up, I might also begin to respect him again.

    If he keeps it up.

Nail on the head. This was McCain throwing in the towel. His supporters are friggin booing him. It doesn’t get much worse than that. He knows he’s going to lose and this is all he can do to salvage himself.

  4. durablend says:

The bigger question–does Barbie keep throwing gasoline onto the fire or does he muzzle her as well?

  5. Cougar says:

I love when the woman is like, “No?” No, he’s not an arab terrorist? But my email machine clearly stated he was an arab!

  6. Duros Hussein62 says:

The McCain campaign is on fire today!

And not in a good way.

    word.

  8. jr says:

McCain opposed MLK’s birthday being a national holiday and called Vietnamese people gooks now he’s surprised his followers want to go on canned hunts of people that aren’t white

If he’s truly trying to pull back and recover a shred of decency and self respect from the cesspit his campaign has become, absolutely. Of course.

“Sure, I just sat by while my henchmen did it in my name. But I never laid a hand on anyone.” Nah. Not gonna fly.

  10. Parthenon says:

Somebody’s comments on a different thread earlier today kinda freaked me out, in this vein.

“There will be resistance the likes of which you have NEVER SEEN!!!11!” /John Wilkes Booth

Between Sen. Obama and the Mona Lisa, I hope the Mona Lisa is easier to touch after election day.

  11. Bruce Henry says:

Don’t worry, Parthenon. That was only mccann. Mccann is a blowhard knownothing bigot, but is harmless. Except to one’s blood pressure.

  12. anotherbozo says:

Try to see the McCain/Palin rabble-rousing sleaze from the point of view of Secret Service personnel covering Obama. They’re trying to guard somebody with the charisma of MLK, JFK and RFK combined, and the Republicans are inciting nutjobs and bigots to yell “terrorist” and “bomb Obama!”

You didn’t think a campaign could get any lower than Swiftboat Veterans for Truth. This rises to the level of fucking CRIMINALITY.

Maybe McCain realizes the danger? Do we have any reason to give him that much credit?

  13. Parthenon says:

Probably true, Bruce, but it only takes one crazy, doesn’t it? The level of vitriol is what has me sorta concerned. If people at the actual rallies are screaming things like ‘kill him’ (even if it’s in reference to Bill Ayers, which I don’t believe it was), what are the nutters plotting?

  14. Kevin says:

It’s pretty hard to tamp down the flames once the pitchforks are raised and the torches are burning.

McCain’s chances are sinking fast, and now he faces the risk that he will be remembered in this campaign only for his inexcusable hate-mongering.

  15. Amused Observer says:

Here’s a little something to highlight the hypocrisies of the left.

I’m sure that will get your liberal panties in a bundle.

So how many people here think Bill Ayers is a sterling example of a fine Aerican? How many would defend or even share his his views on America, on education, on a man’s charactor?

  16. Enlightened Liberal says:

Wow, Ao, way to make a point by linking actions today by people at a McCain putsch rally to a book 4 years ago that no one has ever heard of and isn’t linked to the Kerry or Obama campaign or its supporters. Great job!
