Tour de Hate ‘08 marches on…
McCarthy, 1950
I have here in my hand a list of 205 . . . a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department. …
McCain, 2008
“The same people that are now claiming credit for this rescue are the same ones that were willing co-conspirators in causing this problem that it is,” he said, raising his voice to be heard over the crowd. “You know their names. You will know more of their names.”
The truth of the matter is that the man is just a terrible campaigner. The President was actually quite good in a campaign; he could deliver a line that brought business types and the bluest of blue-collar types into the tent. Sen. McCain seems to flip between maudlin, condescending and ‘passionate,’ which tends to just come off as ‘angry and slightly crazy,’ at least partially because of the supporters’ reactions.
The McCarthy comparison seems true only in spirit. McCarthy was ruining careers and livelihoods; I’m not sure if Sen. McCain calling anyone out on their possible part in the economic mess will do the same. But ‘in spirit’ is bad enough.

No, McCain would like to wait until after he’s elected to ruin careers and livelihoods.
Good thing that ain’t gonna happen.
