McCain Co-Chair Frank Keating Advances The Ball To The Racial Line

McCain likes to festoon himself with these guys named Keating, doesn’t he?

Appearing on Dennis Miller’s radio show, Keating charged that the Democratic nominee was covering up his ‘very extreme’ record, and urged Obama to be more honest with Americans. ‘He ought to admit,’ Keating said, ”You know, I’ve got to be honest with you. I was a guy of the street. I was way to the left. I used cocaine. I voted liberally, but I’m back at the center.”

At this point, with the McCain campaign taking on water and these sleazy attacks getting more desperate, it’s only a matter of time before the “N” bomb is deployed. They’ve already tried to dehumanize Obama by calling him “that one”, made clear references to him being a terrorist sympathizer, and they can’t help trying to push his middle name as a signifier of some dark “other”. The nails are in the coffin for McCain, it’s just a matter of how hard to pound them in.

You know, I’m not sure how much more honest Obama could have been about his drug use than to write about it in his autobiography well before he even announced his run for the Presidency, and then to talk about it out loud with people at campaign stops. With high school students, at that.

No, what’s telling about Keating’s statement is his desire to hear Obama say “I was a guy of the street.”

Meaning: “I was a scary gangbanger.” (Even if Obama never was, mind you.)

Some reporter should ask Keating what exactly he meant by “guy on the street”. Also, as Spider J has said, Obama has already admitted to using cocaine. What’s the deal with Keating?

To Mr. Keating I say this: Since you think Barack Obama should “speak candidly” to the American people about his drug use, let me tell you what I think. I think John McCain should speak candidly to the American people about his affair with his current wife, Cindy, while he was still married to Carol McCain. Additionally, Mr. McCain should explain to the American people why he applied for a marriage license to Cindy before he was legally divorced from Carol. After all, let’s be fair, Mr. Keating.
