I’d have pegged Murdoch as a guy who can see where the winds are blowing and wants to be on the winning side when everything goes down. Either he’s allowing Fox News to continue what it’s doing because he sees it it as serving a niche market with an audience who needs to be cultivated and their needs catered to. Teh Crazy is going to be watching something and they may as well watch Fox as opposed to Glenn Beck. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say he’s making nice with Obama but using Fox as “Bread and Circuses” for the Fox fanbase.

It’s best to think of FOXNews as a product that generates an audience they can sell to advertisers more than anything.

I’m thinking that’s probably true of all the media outlets.

Actually, it’s a mistake to think that everything Fox stands for/supports is synonymous with what Murdoch wants/supports. As far as I understand it, he’s an Obama guy: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/hilary-rosen/rupert-murdoch-says-obama_b_104018.html

It’s best to think of FOXNews as a product that generates an audience they can sell to advertisers more than anything. And liberals/progressives like us who watch to get pissed off are actually an intended component of that audience.
