Blue Dominion

New polls from Virginia.

SurveyUSA: 53% Obama 43% McCain

Suffolk: 51% Obama 39% McCain

Yes, that’s right. Barack Obama has a double digit lead in two polls over John McCain.

In Virginia.

Get to work, America.

Kind of puts egg on the face of the pundits, who were thrilled to say how impressive Palin was after the debate and how she stanched the Republican slide. But Virginia looked too, and saw that she is dangerously out of her depth.

It’s been pretty exciting here in VA these past couple weeks. The voter registration deadline is today. I’ve been canvassing the past two Saturdays and the ground support is truly amazing. Arlington County is very Democratic in general, but they only got 55% voter turnout in 2004. The Obama reps I met said they’re aiming for 80% this year. Combined with Obama’s registration revolution from the primaries, this could make a huge difference.

  3. C’mon folks! Go down to your local Obama office between 6 and 9 tonight. I guarantee you’ll find your friends and neighbors making phone calls and getting out the vote! This is a bottom up campaign, we can do this!

Throw ‘em and anvil, people. Pedal to the metal. Stay on target. Eye of the tiger. And what have you.

Oversampling Democrats by 10% will get you those kind of results.

Why not just whine that they’re oversampling people who support Obama? If you take a random sample of voters and X percent of the sample say they’re Republicans, you have a good estimate of the entire population.

I’ve read several in depth articles on polling procedures and I kind of have to agree with Farris, the system is dubious at best. When Obama was down I was doubting the polls. Is Obama going to win by double digits in Virginia? Who knows. Will a record-breaking number of Democrats come out to vote for Obama on November 4th? Well, I’d bet money on that.

“Is Obama going to win by double digits in Virginia”?

No. These polls seem kind of fishy (and I say that as an Obama supporter).

  11. The Reality-Based Dave says:

Due to illegal voter suppression, a 10% lead will mean Obama might squeak by – 49.5% to 49%
