Sen. Obama calls out McCain’s attempt at a Jedi Mind Trick – “This is not the failed Republican economy you’re looking for”
“Sen. McCain and his operatives are gambling that they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They’d rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up,” Obama said at an event in Asheville, North Carolina.
“That’s what you do when you’re out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time,” he said.
This year, Democrats are not in favor of disarming for the GOP.
Barack Obama’s allies warn that John McCain’s attacks on the Democrat’s character will lead to the political equivalent of mutual assured destruction: fire your big weapon at your own peril.
Several Obama surrogates said his supporters may start reminding voters of McCain’s ties to Charles Keating, a convicted savings and loan owner whose actions two decades ago triggered a Senate ethics investigation that involved McCain as one of the “Keating Five.”
The McCain campaign is getting killed in fundraising. Killed. So what do they do? Call out the waaaahmbulance again.
A lawyer for the Republican National Committee today said the party will ask the Federal Election Commission to look into the source of thousands of small-dollar contributions to the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama.
The Obama’s campaign says please:

We look forward to a thorough investigation into whether John McCain’s campaign has returned all of the money it raised from foreign nationals, as they have admitted McCain-bundler Harry Sergeant has done. Without accepting a dime from the Washington lobbyists or corporate PACs that have funded John McCain’s campaign, our campaign has shattered fundraising records with donations from more than 2.5 million Americans. We have gone above and beyond the transparency requirements by disclosing our bundlers and the levels of contributions they raise. We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available to step to root-out improper contributions,” said Obama-Biden spokesman Bill Burton.
Remember that every time you donate to Obama-Biden it makes the wingnuts cry.
Chuck Todd made a good point about this erratic behavior from the McCain campaign on Meet The Press today. They may chalk up today as a win with all these antics (I don’t, but let them have their moment) but it’s the equivalent of one soldier having a good battle when three armies are landing at Normandy. They are losing the war.
Look for FOX News to lead the charge next week, demanding that MoveOn.org be declared an enemy terrorist organization and that all contributions from its members be returned.

On the topic: McCain and Palin aren’t having any fundraising problems right now, becaues they chose to accept public financing — like Obama did before he changed his mind.
And while Obama can opt out of public financing, he can’t opt out of finance laws — such as “no money from foreign sources” and “no more than $4,600 from any individual” — two restrictions Obama has been caught violating time and time and time again, with the totals running well into the millions.

I guess it wouldn’t be a stretch to believe that it was the Mccain campaign as the ones who have been circulating Obama as a Muslim, and all of the other smears we’ve been seing for almost two years now. Mccain pretty much cornered the propaganda market on this issue, and seems to be coming out of the closet with it now, openly embracing the notion of him having as much of a connection to Al-Queda as Iraq.

Diane Fienstien has a lot of nerve when herr HUSBAND is the jerk real estate dveloper who owned the despicable property where the veterans are getting health care among rat infested building. She and her husband have made millions off the war in Iraq and she has the nerve to complain about anyone else. When is the”press” going to start “invesitgating all the corrupt spouses of the Democraticc women> These corrupt people are so scared that it will not be politics as usual in Washington if someone as honest and ethical as Sarah Palin gets elected. When are the invesitgations of the corrupt women Democrats and their spouses going to start because it was the DEMOCRATS who voted in all the BS that caused these bad loans starting with Carter and moving right throught to the Clintons. McCain and Palin are scary. If they have to use scare tactics during the campaign, what would they do if they were president and vice president? Sarah Palin is really untrustworthy. If I was McCain I would boot her to the moon. She is using him to run in 2012. The American people fell for the scare tactics during the last two elections and it cost them. They are not falling for it again–sorry.
Indeed Obama does have more money to spend, and some of it is dirty. Obama prides himself on the unusual number of small donations he has received. Coincidently the scrutiny that these small donations receive is minimal. Obama has already been caught with multiple small donations by fictitious individuals far in excess of what is legally allowed. Who knows how much more of his “small” unscrutinized donations are also illegal.
Politics is an ugly sport and it is about to get uglier. Obama is the second largest recipient of money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, second only to Dodd. He will be tarred from the same brush as the Republicans start to point out who has lobbied for ever more reckless behavior on the part of these fallen financial juggernauts.
Our entire economy has been put in peril. Strangely there hasn’t been much mention yet about Barney Frank and his lobbying on behalf of his homosexual spouse. But Barney is on record as stating that these two fallen financial angels should push the envelope even further. He helped defeat Republican legislation that would have attempted to put some sort of safeguards on this typical failed Democratic social experiment.
McCain would be a fool not to bring up the Democrat’s role in all of this. And while Obama has not been there long enough to have abetted ruining our economy at the Senate level He is on record as been the second highest recipient of the campaign bribery money that Fannie Mae spread around to to get away with all that they did. And coincidently Fannie Mae has served as a crooked cash cow retirement fund for career Democratic hacks. Yep it’s going to get pretty ugly, all McCain has to do is tell the truth about what the Democrats have wrought.
Say what you will, but I am getting tired of hearing about all the bad things that have been done. I want to hear how the politicians are going to return our country to the glorious way it should be.
Obama has my vote because he has been more focused on what we can do as Americans, what we should be doing, and how we can do it. I have heard little of this from the McCain/Palin side. I am sick of the negativity.
Those of you who support McCain need to stop being selfish, and start putting your country and your fellow Americans first. Believe that your country deserves better.

I keep hearing this, but between RNC dough, in kind contributions (pollsters et al), 527s, and any number of ways to easily skirt The Law, the Republicans still have a near unlimited well of money in which to dip. The difference is that the Dems have much more than ever before and the gap has narrowed. But let’s not pretend for a moment that the party of Scaife, Big Tobacco, Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Big Douchcebag has less money than the other party.
John McCain sat on the board of a very right-wing organization. It was the U.S. Council for World Freedom. It was chaired by a guy named John Singlaub, who wound up involved in the Iran-Contra scandal. It was an ultraconservative right-wing group. The Anti-Defamation League, in 1981, when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League, the parent organization, which ADL said, “has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists and Anti-Semites.”

Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed “Hatred For The American Government”; Cursed “Damn Flag”

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”
The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that’s now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government,” Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.
“And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. “I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”
It’s not pretense, ed, it’s true. Why do you think McCain had to pull out of Michigan? He needed to redirect resources to playing defense in Virginia and Florida. Why do you think Palin was in deep blue California? To raise much-needed cash for the RNC. Even counting RNC ads, Obama is at least matching him in advertising, and burying him on spending in the ground game (to which the RNC can’t contribute). Obama gambled on turning down public financing and has made it pay off bigtime. Why, I may just go shoot him another $25 right now…
If the Democratic Party had properly vetted their new Dear Leader, the Republicans would not have to.
Isn’t it appropriate to point out character issues or lack of judgment? It seems to me that the GOP is having to pull double duty: they have to report on Obama’s dirt because the media won’t do it AND they have to run a campaign.
Honestly, anyone that is not well versed on the issues at this point is going to vote on emotion anyway which is why you’re seeing all of the negative campaign tactics. If you want to hear about the issues, tune into the debate or read the candidates websites. If you want emotion-provoking rhetoric, listen to a campaign rally. Obama does it too. All he talks about is how bad things are for people. I think what comes out of his mouth is overwhelmingly negative. It angers people and provokes support without really understanding how he will change things or if he will really follow through on things.
The question that the GOP is trying to bring out in people and what all voters intending to vote for Barack Obama should ask themselves is, “Do I trust him?” If you do trust him, why do you trust him? If you can answer that with facts, then vote for him.
Reach across the Aisle? Hardly. Bipartisanship? What’s that. Straight Talk express = Horse Puckey! Divisive tactics rule!!! The RNC has decided they will now turn drillnkillsarabara loose with LIES. And John, where are your principles. Have you become so blinded by the lure of power that you’ve given up your love of country? Have you become so desperate that you sacrifice your integrity for the sake of winning? You have rolled over and allowed your campaign people to destroy the respect the American people had for you. Where is the John McCain who was a legitimate hero? John, by your actions and words you have trampled on the ideals that more than 50,000 American soldiers died for in Vietnam and those of the thousands who have died in Iraq and will die there if you’re elected President . You should be ashamed of yourself.

Obama will do just fine as long as he keeps his thoughts and talks on our countries problems and what he will do to fix or at least start ot fix what others have messed up so badly. Oh I do not think he is any more of a bad person than the other 2, McCain and Palin are. If Obama is smart and does not worry about slamming McCain or Palin then he is the bigger person. Our country does not need any more childs play. I really think a lot of people better take a look at the country they live in here and what is going on. The White House really needs Fall Cleaning right now before anyone can start redecorating and I can only pray that Obama is the one who gets to clean it up and re-decorate. Adn again I as well as you can only hope that Obama does not play the Child games and keeps our country on his mind and just forget what MCCain and Palin are saying because what they are saying is worth nothing at all and they are only doing this slamming because they do not know how to tell us what they will do to get our country fixed back up again. I would not call the Keating “scandal” a very big gun…more like a cap gun. The Justice Dept. and the FBI investigation into the matter revealed that Sen. McCain was
cleared of any impropriety and the Ethics Committee concurred. Nice try, though.

I’m pretty sure the Reagan-Bush Justice Dept. cleared McCain of illegality, not impropriety.
And he was rebuked by the Senate Ethics committee for “the appearance of impropriety.” They didn’t “concur” with DoJ.
At least that’s my recollection, and I was paying attention at the time.
I just love the right wingers here spouting the same false argument they always do when their Nazi overlords don’t get the good press their hard-earned corporate dollars have bought and paid for: the “liberal media” is attacking McCain and hiding the “dirt” on Obama. Face it: there is no dirt on Obama. But there is plenty on McCain.
McCain’s desperate attempt to smear Obama isn’t going to work. Hillary Clinton found that out during the primaries. The overwhemling majority of Americans – Republicans included – knowthat Obama is a man of moral character. Calling him a terrorist and attempting once again to put Jerimiah Wright’s words into his mouth will only anger the electorate even more.
Obama’s right. McCain is out of ideas (he didn’t have many to begin with). He continues to slide in the polls and there’s nothing he can do to stop it. By “caught” do you mean “reported by the Obama campaign itself in its disclosures to the FEC”? And by “Obama has been caught violating” do you really mean “contributors have been violating”? And by “running well into the millions” do you mean before or after refunds?
