    Maximum respect for this man.

  2. Grumpymann says:

Oliver I have been reading you for years Frank and have had … words in this very site. But I’m afraid I’m going to have to disagree with you. Confronting it is NOT enough. You have to also have to NOT PUT UP WITH IT! In any in any form.

  3. Parthenon says:

I’ll admit it, I loves me some old school labor populism (Now offered without the racism). The Democratic Party could use a William Jennings Bryan or two these days.

  4. Tanny J says:

Need more people like this gentleman…preach on, Richard!

  5. Vanessa says:

    I like this man.

  6. Randy Brown says:

    PREACH!!

Listening without the video, though, this gentleman sounds more than a bit like Mick Foley. Still an outstanding speech…every local in every union in America should require every member to watch this.

  7. Jay Tea says:

I’m a “worker,” but not a union member. I’m a wage slave at The Day Job. I make less than 30K a year. And I happen to believe that there are a lot of good reasons to not vote for Barack Obama that don’t involve race.

Sounds more like a bunch of straw-man arguments with Obama’s grandmother than anything else.

I’d be curious to see an honest, accurate analysis of how many people won’t vote for Obama because he’s black versus how many people are voting for him because he’s black.

“There’s no evil that’s inflicted more pain and suffering than racism?” I dunno if I agree with that. The last total I saw gave Communism a body count on the high side of 100 million — that’s a pretty damned significant score to beat.

“And come November, he’s gonna be the President of the United States?” He might get elected in November, but he can’t be president until January.

He also forgot to mention that if Obama is elected, the unions will finally rid themselves of that pesky “secret ballot” requirement for unionizing, and can go back to the time-honored traditions of intimidation and thuggery with the “card-check” system.

All in all, good speech — for preaching to the choir.

    J.

    BRAVO mssr. Trunka !!!

    Good luck with that, Jay.

Seriously, is there anything on this site that you won’t disagree with, simply to be disagreeable?

  10. Bruce says:

Jay Tea, how hard does your wrist hurt?

  11. Dave in SoCal says:

    Did you mean Matt Foley?

Someone should ask him if by chance he’s living in a van down by the river.

  12. BillW says:

I’m a “worker,” and a proud union member. I’m a wage slave at The Day Job. I made over 120K last year.

    :)

I watched that vid like 10 times, I loved it, it was great. Thx OW.

  13. Jay Tea says:

Duros, like I said: preaching to the choir. Meaning, those who are already inclined to agree with him will eat it up; those who disagree with him will find nothing persuasive — and some of his hyperbole will be simply grating.

Do you honestly think there was some woman who touted off the standard anti-Obama myths like clockwork? I don’t. I think that she was a construct this guy made up to make his points — a classic “straw man.” And I think someone who actually says that racism is THE worst evil in the history of mankind is pandering — that’s polite language for “lying to appeal to the audience.”

Sorry you don’t like someone from outside the choir not cheering blindly.

    J.

  14. Fred says:

“Do you honestly think there was some woman who touted off the standard anti-Obama myths like clockwork?”

Yup – I have personally witnessed my co-workers aunt doing exactly that as has the mother of my next door neighbor. They have been spoon fed this pap and it is word for word out of the mouths of Limbaugh and Savage and Coulter.

  15. PD100 says:

“Sorry you don’t like someone from outside the choir not cheering blindly.

Then do it via pulling turds of wisdom over at your intellectual litter box. Your hyperbole is nothing BUT grating here.

  16. Jay Tea says:

Gee, PD, that link you posted takes you to Oliver’s page. “Intellectual litter box?” Freudian slip, perhaps?

    J.

  17. PD100 says:

    Litter box.

Nope. Just keyboard fatigue from a union worker.

    -Who earns more than you.

  18. PD100 says:

Ah -wasn’t my bad after all.

OW’s site isn’t HTML Tag friendly.

  19. Randy Brown says:

    Did you mean Matt Foley?

No, asshat. MICK Foley, the pro wrestler formerly known as Cactus Jack.

And that speech annihilated anything you, or Jay, or any other ‘pug apologist could sling around here.

Also, looks like the Golden Girl is getting her sorry little tushie kicked “from pillar to post,” as Mick Foley’s old boss used to say.

President Obama and VP Biden. Better learn to love it…WHOOO!

My next door neighbor will be interested to know she’s made of straw. Because she still spouts that crap.

PD, what the hell are you trying to do? Link to Jay’s site?

  21. Dave in SoCal says:

Suggest you switch to decaf, Randy. Or stop huffing glue.

  22. Mungen_Cakes says:

That awesome dude was no Cactus Jack. He was Mankind.

  23. Jaim says:

John McCain owns over seven mansions. He doesn’t give a fuck about people like me with real jobs.

  24. Dr. Doctrine says:

Excellent speech. Thank you Oliver for putting that one out there

  25. Bruce Henry says:

“Do you honestly think there was some woman who touted off the standard anti-Obama myths like clockwork?”

Hell, yes. I meet people like her every day. Just this past Friday night I heard a 20 year old college student claiming Obama was a Muslim, then turning around and saying he spent 20 years in Wright’s church. When I told her the Muslim thing had been debunked months ago, she simply said, “Well, I’ll never vote for a Muslim for President.”

These people are stubbornly, proudly ignorant as hell.

  26. PD100 says:

PD, what the hell are you trying to do? Link to Jay’s site?

I was but Mozilla does some evil shit when you mix HTML and message boards. Screw it.

  27. Parthenon says:

“Do you honestly think there was some woman who touted off the standard anti-Obama myths like clockwork?”

You know, it’s funny you should ask. I casually asked a coworker – she’s around 29, 30 – last night who she was voting for. And she calmly and cordially spouted every anti-Obama myth before telling me that she really liked Sen. McCain’s vice president and thought she might “really do some good things for our country.”

I politely declined to respond. If you vote for Sen. McCain based on his program, fine, we can have a conversation; if you tell me Sen. Obama hates the United States and might be a Muslim you’re too far gone.

I would strongly disagree with your statement. Religious persecution has those numbers beat six ways to Sunday. I might even guess that (1)Catholicism, (2)Islam, and (3)the rest of the Christian sects put together have each surpassed this number themselves.

Not sure how close the Europeans decimating the native american tribes over the centuries compares, but it’s probably pretty close to your 100 million count. As would be the number of people who died because of racism in all its’ forms. All of the asian racism over the years, along with all of the racism against asians, along with all the racism within each race (for example, the racism against the various European immigrants from americans when they immigrated here), along with all of the racism against hispanics – you’re talking about some pretty big numbers there, too.

  29. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
When I made the point a day or two back that if Obama loses this election because of racism it will be the racism of the left it was greeted with great derision here in “Reality Based” land.

There is a damn good chance that Obama will win this election. The republic will endure. The pendulum always swings. Like Carter, Obama may be the price we pay for a better America.

  30. Smartsistah says:

For the record 100 million black people died in the slave trade! It did last 500 years you know and then we won’t talk about how many have died in lynchings, brutal attacks, Klan terrorism etc. That is what kills me the most about most white folks that just cannot own up to the crap that has gone on for centuries and before you give me the line that YOU didn’t do it YOU have white privilege and have benefited from it so keep that argument to yourself.

If you are so racist to the core you can’t vote for Obama because he is Black. Fine. You have taught us well how to deal in hard times and when you lose your investments, home, cars etc. and start jumping out of windows, I say good riddance.

  31. Donna Angers says:

I admire the Labor Man for speaking the truth about racsim. It will eventually destroy America, because the white man will not always be the majority. It looks like the Mexicans will have the most voters very soon. For you racist, you should just admit you are a racist and think white people are better than any race. Most non-whites know know this. I want Obama to win because I think Mc Cain represents the racism and lynching that many white Americans believe in. IF Mc Cain wins, you racist deserve him. I am a 70 year, college graduate that can live in hard times. A lot of you white people will find it very difficult. Then who will you blame? Bush? Mcain. How funny. The poor people have supported the upper class whites and rich whites forever. If we don’t any money, how can we support you. Trumka is a wise man. God Bless America.
