* “Satire is supposed to tear down hypocrisy and demolish abusers of power, but this is a movie version of the The ½ Fox News Hour. It’s a bunch of rich and arrogant people making fun of free speech, dissenting opinions, minorities and being middle class. That’s not to say it couldn’t have somehow worked, but Zucker is a poor marksman and his shotgun approach winds up shooting himself instead of making a point.”
Conservative humor will work when conservatives quit trying to shove GOP talking points down your throat and go for the funny first.

Where We Are

We’re at the phase of the election where Glenn Reynolds apparently just makes stuff up. Although it frankly always feels like we’re at that phase.

McCain Camp Looks For Palin Do-Over

6:53 pm EST September 29th, 2008 | News | 10 Comments

Senator McCain is 25 years older than Sen. Obama, but they are the ones engaging in school yard tactics. Now they want a do-over for the introduction of Sarah Palin after McCain’s failed time out last week.

One brilliant idea is to put her on Rush Limbaugh’s show. But Limbaugh’s show is largely comprised of those who drink the con kool-aid and an appearance there is unlikely to turn back the tide of failure her nomination has been so far. She already played pattycake with the cable version of Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and it hasn’t helped.

The Cuba Gap

5:46 pm EST September 29th, 2008 | Politics | 3 Comments

If a Democrat is trending positively in this region of Florida, it is not good news for the GOP ticket. Diaz-Balart is a well known factor down there (his brother used to be an anchor on the local NBC affiliate), and if the Cuban-American community is turning against him it means the GOP just might be losing its grip on those voters. And if they lose those voters, they’ll lose Florida.

McCain Epic Fail

2:52 pm EST September 29th, 2008 | News | 61 Comments

Like Bush in Iraq, John McCain declared victory before the war was over.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition – hours before the vote failed and stocks tanked.

The rush to claim he had engineered a victory now looks like a strategic blunder that will prolong the McCain’s campaign’s difficulty in finding a winning message on the economy.

Shortly before the vote, McCain had bragged about his involvement and mocked Sen. Barack Obama for staying on the sidelines.

Perhaps McCain will suspend his campaign again. Permanently. Or we’ll just do it for him in a month.

Take The Fight To Them

9:27 am EST September 29th, 2008 | Media | 34 Comments

Robert Gibbs of the Obama campaign makes the goobers on Fox & Friends apoplectic on the bracelet issue because a Dem refuses to accept their right-wing blog framing of the issue.

If/when Obama is elected, Fox News is going to be opposition central, so think of this as sort of a preview in addition to the slam pieces the NY Post (another wing of the Murdoch empire) is pushing today.
