That’s who National Review’s Mark Krikorian is blaming for Washington Mutual’s failing. Blaming minorities for the screwed up economy is now an official Republican/conservative talking point. Heck of a job, guys.

    Oliver, even as a liberal and fan of your blog, I have to say that that is a very dishonest interpretation of Mr. Krikorian’s main point.

    Republicans, conservatives, remember this moment the next time one of you says “minorities are Democrats cuz’ they want free goodies.” Remember this moment, and perhaps it will sink in that the best way to earn a demographic’s support is to represent their interests, not to insult them.

    OT – stopped in at the local branch today and greeted the teller as a shiny new employee of JP Morgan Chase; they’re giving this scripted-to-sound-unscripted response of how excited they are to have failed and been taken over. I had to stop myself from winking and saying “Riiiiiiight.”

    Saw a McCain ad yesterday morning on either CBS or CNN, can’t remember which – it was about the economy, showed some supposed friend of Obama’s who supposedly made millions of dollars in some shady wallstreet something. Of course this guy was also black. The message of the ad was so clear: Vote McCain, you know, the white guy, and prevent dishonest black people from stealing your money. It was creepy.

    Isn’t Krikorian the guy who’s almost as much against LEGAL immigration as he is against the illegal variety? This tells you a lot about where he’s coming from.
