Obama's comments do not refer to McCain's age. This is what "old boys network" means:

old boy network
(also old boys network)

 • (noun) an informal system through which men use their positions of influence to help others who went to the same school or university, or who share a similar social
background.
(quoted from the OED)

John McCain Had To Give Lots Of Dome To Get In The Network...

“Yesterday, John McCain actually said that if he’s president that he’ll take on, and I quote, ‘the old boys network in Washington.’ Now I’m not making this up. This is somebody who’s been in Congress for twenty...

Parthenon, you do have to admit that basing your entire campaign on alienating the single largest voting block seems … odd.

I'll confess I don't have enough day-to-day contact with elderly folks to know whether many of them are alienated by the implication that Sen. McCain is too old to be president. My first (uninformed) impression is that it'd be sort of scattershot - some would agree that he's too old, some would disagree but not take offense, and some would take offense. As to the ratios of those, I have no idea. Most of the elderly I do know tend more towards conservatism anyway, so I'm not sure how much damage it could do to the Democratic ticket.

For my part, I've always found the age criticism kind of silly. Plenty of countries have had heads of the government older than Sen. McCain that have operated and governed just fine. I haven't heard anybody arguing that Sen. Byrd has lost his bearings.

"Apologies for the OT, but someone asked for any updated polls on Virginia, once rumored to be a battleground state.

McCain up 9 in Virginia — among registered voters"

And Fox/Rasmussen has the race tied.
And PPP has Obama ahead by 2 points.
And SurveyUSA has Obama ahead by 4.

Choosing one poll and ignoring the others is not a good way to win an argument.

Virginia is a tossup at the moment.

Come on, you really think old people want someone in their demo to be President? Don't you have more respect for them for that?

Parthenon, you do have to admit that basing your entire campaign on alienating the single largest voting block seems … odd.

That is odd. Nevertheless, the McCain campaign insists that the way Social Security works is "a disgrace."

Oh wait! Were you talking about somebody using the word "old"? I guess that could be a bigger issue to seniors than Social Security. And green monkeys might pilot my flying scooter to Jupiter.

Hey, I put it in bold, sorry I didn't put quotes on it but I did it quickly and thought it was in the body of the article I linked to instead of Captain Ed's writing.

My bad, but I'm not a Joe Biden, give me a break.

No Mark Warner effect...30% of people voting for Warner do not plan to vote for Obama, a rather stunning rejection in a state Obama hoped to make competitive.

Arrow still in the quiver on all of this - Keating Five. It is the same issue - regulators looking other way, who picks up MASSIVE S&L bailout tab? Taxpayers.

Don't step out of line Johnny Mac unless you really wants it...

I like how things are shaping up. And this isn't strategery. It is issues, what it should have been all along. As a certain former president has recently said, right now the Dems are on the right side of history.
