Funny you should ask Dennis. Newsweek has a story about Palin's numbers falling in the DIAGEO tracking polls. -4 pts in favorable opinion in 2 days and a 6 pt rise in unfavorable.

We can certainly agree that that spate of Palin family stories that came out just after they announced her candidacy was not our media's proudest moment. That stuff is always narsty and never relevant, be the candidate Sarah Palin, John Edwards, John McCain or Bill Clinton.

The 'lie' word has a lot of charge behind it, and ought to be reserved for obviously deliberate deception. However, speaking as objectively as I can, I'm not sure how anyone could argue that the McCain campaign hasn't engaged in some of that recently.

<em>the word lie is used way too much in this campaign and especially in blogtopia.</em>

I agree that the word "lie" has been used more during this campaign than in many others. You neglect to posit a reason for the frequency of it's use.

I think it's because John McCain and Sarah Palin have been telling so many of them.

Parthenon- Fair point, although the word lie is used way too much in this campaign and especially in blogtopia. And I disagree that it is only liberal blogs that are the ones doing the smearing, or telling tall tales. If one thought that they aren't paying attention.

Just fyi. Republicans are not attacking Biden for a reason.

<a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/16/rasmussen-hypothetical-palin-47-biden-44/" rel="nofollow">Here's</a> why.

I would hope no one would argue with me that there is not plenty of material to do it if anyone on the Rep. side thought it was the right strategy.

Someone please show me any poll aside from a Daily Kos poll that proved that attacking Palin 24/7 was paying off.

Dennis: <i>and see for yourself how many articles are about Sarah America, mostly against. </i>

Again, ask yourself why that is. Might is be because she is woefully unqualified to be VP?

See how many articles there are online about Bin Laden or Saddam. Yeah, Godwin's Law is nipping at my heals here, but the point remains: A lot of articles AGAINST someone might just indicate that they are an objectionable person, and NOT that they are being unfairly picked on.

Saw a magazine at the supermarket this morning that read "Palin-tology," with a picture of the governor with a gun over her shoulder. She reminds me a bit of those parts in the movies where the masked/helmeted athlete/ninja/whatever has their cover torn away dramatically and GASP! IT'S A WOMAN!

Dennis, some liberal blogs telling tall tales about the Governor does not a smear-fest make. Nor, by the way, does the media asking legitimate questions and actually calling the campaign on it <a href="http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/energetically_wrong.html" rel="nofollow">when they lie,</a> like this bit about her state 'being in charge of 20% of the country's energy supply.'

Duros-

Willie Horton was no relection on Mondale. Dukakis was the Pres. candidate, genius. Edwards... haircut, ok, criticism and making fun of a douchebag, but you couldn't make any case whatsoever that he got anywhere close to the scrutiny as Palin. If you had Lexus.Nexis you could prove that for yourself since you'd never believe me. Pull up memeorandum.com every once in a while and see for yourself how many articles are about Sarah America, mostly against. Tell me if Edwards had all kinds of shit made up about him, then when they were debunked, scant few retractions.

Gore invented the internet and the Love Story fabrication- not brought up until he ran for President and blew a sure thing.

Kerry- windsurfer. Again, President.

Yeah, Palin's an unknown entity. Doesn't excuse making shit up and repeating rumors that deny credibility. Daily Kos promotes lying about her (Why not, that's what the Swiftboaters did is their logic).

Blank women in politics at the governor level don't receive 80% approval ratings and the commendations of her opposition the way Palin has as governor of Alaska. Somehow that little tidbit of information always escapes the liberal objective talking points.

<i>Republicans don’t generally waste their time digging up dirt on the VP candidate for a reason.</i>

Well, that's bullshit.

<i>And if they did and were faced with the reality that all the polls are telling them that the strategy was backfiring like they are with Palin now, you can be damn sure they would cease and desist and come up with an alternative strategy.</i>

So is that. Willie Horton. Dukakis in a tank. Edward's haricuts. Gore invented the internet and was the dude in Love Story. John Kerry windsurfs. Blahblahblah.

Look, perhaps the reason everybody is obsessing about her is that she's an unknown entity. Everybody else on your list are or were pretty well known within the political and media circles. This woman is a blank.
and the more we find out about her, even anecdotally, the more unqualified for VP she becomes.

<i>Please tell one Democratic VP candidate that has garnered to obsessive criticism that Sarah Palin has... No... No... No...</i>

First, you're wrong.

Second, even if you were right, perhaps it's because she's so exceedingly unqualified to be VP. I.e., perhaps it's because she deserves to be bashed.

Dennis, now find a democratic VP candidate who was as unknown as Sarah Palin. Then find one that was unvetted by the campaign like Palin was. Next, find one as unqualified as Palin. Then contrast the negatives you are compalining about with the ridiculous and false claims trying to bolster her as the VP choice.

Please tell one Democratic VP candidate that has garnered to obsessive criticism that Sarah Palin has.

John Edwards? No

Joe Lieberman? No

Al Gore as VP? No

G. Ferraro? No, not even close.

Mondale? No

Lloyd Bentsen? No

I'll keep going if you'd like, and I'll concede that this woman just entered the scene, to you anyway, not to us. Even still, you cannot stop posting about her, nor can any liberal blogs, not the NY Times, not the WaPo, not the cable stations, not the MSM, not every liberal pundit, not Team Obama.

Republicans don't generally waste their time digging up dirt on the VP candidate for a reason. They don't report on hearsay about VP candidates usually, not with the same fervor done to Palin. And if they did and were faced with the reality that all the polls are telling them that the strategy was backfiring like they are with Palin now, you can be damn sure they would cease and desist and come up with an alternative strategy. As it is, the obsession with by the Left only grows with each passing day.

Tanning bed. Oy. It somewhat saddens me to see you guys digging your own grave when the election was handed to you on a silver platter and laid right at your feet by the Republican party.

I don't know if she's crazy or just a zealot. She believes abortion is wrong even in cases of Rape or incest. It's something I don't agree with but I don't think that's a crazy position. She also believes in faith healing. It doesn't agree with my view on religion, is it crazy? I don't know. She believes in speaking in tongues. Is it religious ecstasy beyond my comprehension or just crazy? It seems crazy.

But it comes down to opinion. In my opinion she's an extreme religious zealot. Am I willing to label her as crazy? No. Just unfit.

Love to get the full story. Too bad Tundra Barbie is not forthcoming with information and is refusing a subpoena. Kinda like some other VP I've heard of.

"It’s a good thing Republican officials and conservative commentators never bash Democrats."

If the media would spend as much time talking about Republican lies and hypocrisy as they did about Edwards haircut, we would never have another Republican president, ever.

They would literally have to let the party die and form a new one.

<i>fomenting at the mouth</i>

That's awesome.

John fund's response was more of a "LALALALA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU! LALALAL!" than anything else.

If her opinion is that abortion is wrong, even in cases of rape or incest, she's still a fucking wacko, regardless of whether she's made any legislative decisions regarding the matter. I'd rather have someone in office whose opinion isn't crazy-talk. I'll be more assured that they won't, ultimately, try to eliminate choice from women.

Apologies for my original post re: Palin shooting wolves from planes. She only SUPPORTS the practice. My fault. This doesn't change anything though. Her supporting that practice is self-evidently fucking crazy.

"You print only what you have read"

I do my research, buddy. And yes, I am criticizing her for things that I have (gasp! the horror!) read about her. On what other basis should I critique her on? Maybe her own words? OK, done. "I guess that being a small-town mayor is kind of like being a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities." Fuck her.

"So bottom line, you don’t know what you are talking about, nor do you seek to know the full story"

I would LOVE to know the full story. You want to fill me in, because I am apparently so uneducated and clueless? I'm a fucking scientist, man, my JOB is to make conclusions based on the available data. But hey, don't let me stop you from believing what you want to believe about me.

For the record, I thought that Roseanne was inarticulate and not particularly interesting. Janeane Garofalo was great. As Bill Maher pointed out, there's a difference in what is politically expedient and what is truth. I'm talking about truth here. Fund is a complete horse's ass, trying to claim that he wouldn't know what the Bush Doctrine was either (in defense of Palin). Fuck that guy, too.

<em>John Fund on Bill Maher was correct. It is why you lose. Janeane Garfolo and Roseanne Barr probably made you very happy, but they’re hatred at all things Republican and their lack of ability to make clear, concise and correct arguments without fomenting at the mouth only drove Fund’s point home for anyone watching with an objective viewpoint.</em>

This is truly remarkable.

Here we have a commenter who tells us that "bashing" Sarah Palin drives up support for the Republican ticket. “Keep bashing Sarah. Americans just love that,” he tells us. "It is why you lose," he says.

The commenter has announced a direct cause-and-effect relationship: "Liberals" bash the conservative candidate, voters react by voting for the conservative candidate. Actual positions and policies? Not part of the equation. "Bashing" = more votes, it's that simple. It seems that our commenter believes that many people decide how to vote not by what is best for the country, but by choosing whoever "liberals" don't like.

But that's not the part I find remarkable. What's really astounding is this: <em>"Janeane Garfolo and Roseanne Barr probably made you very happy, but they’re [sic] hatred at all things Republican and their lack of ability to make clear, concise and correct arguments without fomenting [sic] at the mouth only drove Fund’s point home for anyone watching with an objective viewpoint."</em>

"Anyone with an objective viewpoint"? I don't doubt that there are people who cast their ballots out of spite for liberals, but calling that "an objective viewpoint" is loony.
