Conservative Bigot Eruption: Obama Parodied As Aunt Jemima

Can’t help themselves.

A conservative political forum on Saturday sold boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

The product, Obama Waffles, was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix and sold it for $10 a box from a booth at the Values Voter Summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama’s politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the image of the classic pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

Stay classy, I’m sure it’ll work on those moderates and undecided voters REAL good.

    Conservative bigot.

    Sir, you repeat yourself.

I believe Obama’s speaking at that Fundie Fest, no? He should take a box of that crap on stage with him and start shredding apart the room.

    Evangelical ass-hat racists.

No nutwing trolls weighing in on this one?

I like the idea of Cindy McCain drug testing kits. You should always test your drugs for quality before taking them. From your charity. Your “children’s” charity.

It should include an application for a diplomatic passport for avoiding customs, which is available through your senator. If you’re lucky enough to own one.

    Rimshot.

We should also consider a “Rush” Limp-baugh drug testing and smuggling kit, which includes as a bonus: money laundering instructions, and a handy guide to teenage prostitution in the Dominican Republic.

    I’ll be here all week.

I’m surprised as well. They are usually fast to defend the Republicans against accusations of racism. The party of the Southern Strategy should not be accused of racism.

  9. Cougar says:

If there was an actual photo with Dobbs lauding this racist thing, as claimed by RawStory, it has been removed from the Obama Waffle website. I’d like to see that.

    What’s there to say?

    They did a wrong thing…

Is there some kind of message there?

  11. SpiderJ says:

They did a wrong thing that is vaguely similar to the wrong thing they do every couple of weeks or so.

    Fixed, Frank.

  12. Dr. Doctrine says:

Ah, yes, the Caca-roaches emerge from the cultural right’s sphincter. It’s a beautiful sight, isn’t it. It’s liberals who protect speech who ask for this kind of treatment (well, NOT really).

  13. Gravypan says:

I’ve never felt compelled to demand apologies or a rebuke from one person for the actions of others. If I did, I’d ask Oliver and all of you to rebuke the allegations that Randi Rhodes, who’s more well known that Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss BTW, made about Sarah Palin molesting teenage boys.

Instead, might I suggest letting Mark, Bob, and Randi answer for their actions.

  14. Enlightened Liberal says:

Knew there would be some con cobag around to assert “but liberals do it too”. I guess Saturday is their day off.

  15. Gravypan says:

Boy you really know how to fucking read, don’t you, dillweed?

I never made a justification for their stupid decision. Just that I think it’s ridiculous to demand a rebuke for every stupid or horrible act.

  16. essrog says:

Boooo I demand better trolling. That is a pretty dispirited defense of conservative racism. Oh well, maybe the others will weigh in once they’ve returned from vacation and bring some enthusiasm to the effort

  17. SpiderJ says:

It’s stupid of Rhodes to suggest that Palin abuses teenage boys. She’s too busy abusing her power for that.

  18. Mylegacy says:

I’m 62. I remember Nixon’s disgusting dirty tricks against Munske. And every dirty trick the Rebublicans have pulled since then.

Every election I say, “Surely, the American people will not put up with these bastards. Except for Clinton – the American people have put up with it. The republicans have formed a MAJORITY consisting of: religious/neocon/racist/bigmoney/anti-labor neanderthals.

We have a chance of making them a minority this cycle BUT only if EVERY one of us gets off our lilly white asses (Oliver is excused from the “lilly white” part…) and work till we bleed doing whatever the Obama campaign NEEDS us to do – no matter how beneath us it might be.

If we do not work – as we never have before we will have war – we will have lost the Supreme Court for at least a GENERATION and our daughters will have the choice of having unwanted childeren or getting out the coat hangers. THAT – is what we have to look forward to. DON’T JUST BLOG – WORK!!!!!

Umm, you do know who Jeremiah Wright is, don’t you?

Jesus, how do you guys rest your heads on your pillows at night with all that rank hypocrisy dripping out of your ears?

  21. Zython says:

It’s stupid of Rhodes to suggest that Palin abuses teenage boys. She’s too busy abusing her power for that.

I don’t know, the names she chose for her children probably constitute SOME sort of abuse.

Dweezil, Moon Unit, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. Names to stir the hearts and minds and launch a thousand space ships…

  23. Parthenon says:

Zython, I have it on good authority that if you were a Palin, you’d be called Guzzle Red Palin. Oliver would be Froth Moonshine.

All in good fun, before anybody decides to work up some self-righteous umbrage.

  24. Parthenon says:

Gallup daily says McNovocain’s lead is down to 2.

And it appears that reports of the Senator’s money machine breaking down are the opposite of true.

Had me nervous there for a second.

  25. datadave says:

Still a good percentage of the public believes Obama is a Muslim. And a racial radical. ’nuff said, McCain’s supporters are using sleazy racist tactics and conservatives complain about Charlie Gibson???

abusing teenaged boys? like sending off to war for a photo-op shot on 9/11?

  26. Zython says:

Parth, thanks alot! It’s great to know that I’m not the only one that feels that way.

  27. Duros Hussein62 says:

    Beretta Hockey Palin.
    USA! Fuck yeah!
