Why Do The Women Of The View Have More Balls Than The MSM To Call Out Lying McCain?

Just wondering. More here.

UPDATE: The AP uses “fumbled” as a nice way of saying “lied”.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Friday defended two debunked television ads attacking Democrat Barack Obama and claimed erroneously that running mate Sarah Palin never sought money for lawmakers’ pet projects as Alaska governor.

Palin sought $197 million in so-called “earmarks” for 2009. In the previous budget year, she asked for earmarks worth $256 million.

McCain made the comments during a feisty grilling on ABC’s “The View,” where the panel of female hosts pressed him on Palin’s religious views, his position on abortion rights and whether he had traded in his maverick ways to placate conservatives.

The meme is growing. The MSM can’t ignore it for long.

Love his expression at about :20 when she says “they are lies.”

I think he was expecting a fluff interview.

  4. Apparently I hadn’t given the ladies of The View as much journalistic credit as they deserved. Glad I got to see this video, absolutely hilarious.

  5. Jay Tea says:

I rather liked the clip when Whoopi Goldberg asked if she had to worry about becoming a slave. That was a truly insightful and hard-hitting question.

  6. Nimrod Gently says:

This is completely brilliant. I hope it swings it back to Obama because McCain just started winning and that horrifies me.

  7. Cyndi says:

I want to see how many weak substitutes the MSM can come up with to avoid using the the word LIE. They must be hitting the Roget’s pretty hard right about now.

  8. Cougar says:

This is fantastic. The best polling you’re ever gonna get will come from my 83 year-old ex-Republican grandmother in Ohio. She watches The View. She votes. Speaking of Obama a few months ago, she asked me, “I didn’t think someone from another country could be president, could he?” These days, she thinks he’s going to win. After seeing this interview, she might even vote for Obama.

  9. Parthenon says:

It is not a question of balls, unless you consider “abject terror at appearing liberally biased” or “ridiculously lazy to the point of hardly being able to copy and paste the candidate’s comment and type in ‘he said’ after it” a question of balls.

Shorter Jay Tea: “Look over there!”

Joy Behar has just won the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

John McCain got his butt beat bad by “the ladies.” Ain’t no way the McCain/Palin campaign id sending Sarah Palin into that Lioness Den.

Now we know that John McCain isn’t ready to lead and he can’t even beat girls.

  12. durablend says:

Even Elisabeth (reliable stooge) couldn’t save the McCain’s I take it?

  13. midderpidge says:

“It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.”

  14. Erik says:

    Ex-effin-actly, Oliver.

The MSM feels like a dinosaur in this campaign. They miss story after story. Charles Gibson does an interview with Gov. Palin, in which she obviously doesn’t know from the Bush Doctrine, and implies that we should invade Russia, and what’s the headline in the NY Times? IN FIRST BIG INTERVIEW, PALIN SAYS ‘I’M READY’ FOR THE JOB.

    Please.

Joy Behar, on the other hand, rocks.

You, too. Keep up the good work.

“The meme is growing. The MSM can’t ignore it for long.”

I agree with CS. This move by the View gives the MSM the okay to speak about McCain’s smears and lies.

  17. anotherbozo says:

I was disappointed by the clips after reading OW’s headline. McCain squirmed out with “they weren’t lies,” and nobody confronted him with individual ones, ie, “sex ed in kindergarten” or “a plan to raise taxes” or even Palin’s earmarks while governor, requests exceeding $170 mill this year alone.

  18. anotherbozo says:

Can we hope for a media pile-on? HuffPost has quotes from all over the media calling McCain on his lying, noting the frequency of “misstatements,” low blows, etc. Maybe Mr. and Mrs. John Q will play it differently this time, tsk tsk the strategy instead of seeing the Dem as weak. Isn’t Rove a household name by now? The public loves novelty, maybe they’ll be tired of the same old game.

  19. MrGreyGhost says:

Geez, when the “progressive” wing has to rely on a den of tired, old chickenheads to relay their agenda you just know they’re desperate. Of course, OW gives McCain no credit for even appearing on the stage of this liberal cesspool.

  20. Enlightened Liberal says:

Elizabeth “I finished 2nd on Survivor and married a 3rd string quarterback” Hasslebeck is on the show, negating your claims of liberal bias.

  21. JWG says:

negating your claims of liberal bias

So you admit that having only one person of a particular ideology “negates” claims of political bias. Interesting. Are you sure you want to stick with that logic?

  22. Enlightened Liberal says:

    Go play in traffic, jwg.

  23. Zython says:

Geez, when the “progressive” wing has to rely on a den of tired, old chickenheads to relay their agenda you just know they’re desperate

Why do you hate women so much?

  24. Jaim says:

I’m not surprised that they did a better job of asking questions than the MSM would.

Richard Cohen? David Broder? Everybody else? These guys have a built-in “equivalency” fetish. If there’s a flaw in John McCain, there must be an equally damning one in Barack Obama. This is how the He-men of “balanced” reportage operate. More importantly, they’ll never risk pissing off a major politician by asking straight-up questions because that might damage their friendship with him, and thereby taint their “balanced”-ness.

I personally can’t stand The View. Too much estrogen all at once for my tastes (I’d never want to watch five dudes sit around and talk about life either). But good on them for this. McCain still thinks he’s in his 40’s and can charm his way past ladies. Doesn’t realize he’s a dried-up old fart who’s way off of his game.

  25. Duros Hussein62 says:

I think he was expecting a fluff interview.

    I’m convinced of it.

  26. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Of course, OW gives McCain no credit for even appearing on the stage of this liberal cesspool.”

What did they do to make you call them a liberal cesspool? Was it because they spoke the truth?

At this moment in history, if you simple point out the facts in an unbiased way, you will tilt heavily liberal.

  27. Sean D. Martin says:

Vanessa: This move by the View gives the MSM the okay to speak about McCain’s smears and lies.

No. The First Amendment gives the MSM the okay to speak about McCain’s smears and lies.

  28. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    Two points…

1.) Five guys wouldn’t sit around talking about live. We would take about sports.

2.) It’s not that McCain is old, it’s that he is off his game. Ron Paul is older than McCain, right? I would expect Ron Paul to handle himself better than McCain did in that interview.

  29. essrog says:

Frankly, *I* expected this to be a fluff interview! The fact that The View braced McCain in a meaningful way suggests that his messaging is off: his brand is lies, not reform.

It’s one thing for the recognition of McCain as liar to permeate the MSM, but when it soaks this coffee talk show, you know the truth is afoot amongst America at large.

    Suck it, McCain defenders

  30. CM says:

Five guys wouldn’t talk about sports.

They’d talk about how bad the officiating is in sports and how the players of today are worse and more spoiled than the players they watched growing up. :)

  31. The Oracle says:

Two words come to mind whenever I think of Sarah Palin: Monica Goodling.

Would anyone in their right mind vote for Monica Goodling to be vice-president, someone a heartbeat away from being president?

Well, Sarah Palin IS Monica Goodling.

Just like Goodling, Palin abused her position of public trust, using her public office for personal/religious vendettas.

Just like Goodling, Palin lied, lied, lied, while claiming to be a follower of Jesus Christ, who I really doubt is the Prince of Lies.

Just like Goodling, Palin is unqualified to hold any government position, especially not vice-president or (God help us) president.

Palin equals Goodling, with the same disdain for the rule of law, our Constitution, the will of our founding fathers to keep church and state separate.

Palin equals Goodling, with all the horror this entails for the freedom-loving women of our nation.

  32. essrog says:

The Palin-Goodling connection is great, but don’t stop there: you can substitute “Goodling” with “Bush” and it’s all just as true.

What’s the difference between George Bush and Sarah Palin? Lipstick
