Shoot, Guys, even here if B-F Oklahoma my husband and I (and we're veterinarians for gosh sakes) BOTH instantly knew what Gibson meant by that question!

Bush Doctrine: Pre-emptive war.

Powell Doctrine: Overwhelming force, clear exit strategy, Pottery barn rule.

And I work outside all day long, I'm no policy wonk.

Now, McCainiacs, let me ask you this: Is she FOR or AGAINST the Bush doctrine? Because I've listened to her answer several times and I still can't tell for sure whether she would push the button or not. Neither could some news outlets which reported both that she supported and did not support the Bush Doctrine once it was explained to her.

Maybe she was for it before she was against it.

All of this reminds me of the Republican feedback loop:

1. Republicans slash education funds.
2. Students don’t get educated.
3. Students vote Republican.
4. Repeat.

Reminds me of the first 10 minutes of Idiocracy.

I'm deathly afraid that "middle America" is going to see her ignorance on, well, everything as a feature not a bug. Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice by McSame because it reignites the culture wars- not Christian versus non-Christians, not white versus black, but uneducated "regular people" from Red States against educated "elites" from the coasts. This is their rebellion against people who achieved too much and know too much. She will be seen as a regular Mom, not caught up in things like foreign policy and economic principles.

My wife is from "middle America" and when I go back there with her, her old friends from high school are threatened by her and my success and education. These are the people that flock to Palin- she doesn't try to "put on airs" like going to a fancy college or talking about foreign policy.

The Bristol Palin pregnancy if anything endears them to Mrs. Palin. A good portion of my wife's female classmates got knocked up in high school, many by "f---in rednecks".

All of this reminds me of the Republican feedback loop:

1. Republicans slash education funds.
2. Students don't get educated.

4. Repeat.

Palin is a religious zealot. Every decision she would make as president would be put through that single overriding test. War in Iraq? It's a task from God. God hates fags. God has given dominion over the earth to Man so fuck the polar bears.

Her overriding goal as president would be to give other zealots like herself dominion over this nation. Prayer in school, creation taught in the classroom, confrontation with the heathen nations, the constitution taking a back seat to the bible.

We didn't cut and run from Vietnam. We declared victory and strategically redeployed the troops.

I hate to bring up so mundane as democracy but why won't our government follow the will of the electorate?

BTW, the pregnant police chief in Fargo was smart, not trigger happy.

The hard jump-cut after the Iran question is especially frightening; why was that question so hard that it required a hard edit before she answered? Fucking unreal.

You're dealing with a party that sees "sitting for seven minutes reading The Pet Goat instead of taking action or at least trying to find a TV set" as a sign of strength and resolve.

Yeah, I had a mildly retarded uncle once that was mayor of Utica, Mississippi. He did a great job, despite having trouble writing his own name. Of course, back then you could just hang a black person if he got "uppity," so it may have been easier to govern. But I wouldn't have wanted him as VPOTUS. That guy was fucking insane.

Watch the video of Palin's interview again, and really look at her face. There's a slow-boiling rage trapped in that box head that I wouldn't want to see vented on, oh, say another country or whatnot. It is absolutely and literally terrifying that this person could have The Launch Codes™.

I'ma quote this because it sums up the right in general.

Funny stuff. Palin was just like the pregnant police chief in “Fargo”, except without the warmth, charm, likeability, or intelligence.
Here, someone makes a joke about “banning Harry Potter books”, so instead of defending her lame performance, the trolls start talking about Wasilla in the 1990s. Forget about advocating war with Russia.
Her and whose army? Not so funny, really.

Also, Z_Audra nailed it. We've gone down the rabbit hole and the rest of the world must be absolutely shitting itself with The Panic. Can we hold some sort of séance to ressurrect the ghost of Tim Russert and have him haunt the living fuck out of Palin and the First Dude? Can we spin up an Edward R. Murrow poltergeist and have him get ugly on the ball-dropping media? Otherwise we're quite simply fucked with our pants on.

The blowback from this -- against Liberals and The Media™, whatever the fuck that means anymore -- is going to be enormous. Palin hit it from the 3-point line last night as far as The Right is concerned, and Gibson will go down in flames for being dismissive and arrogant and condescending (on that last point, they'd be right). They need to release the entire tape -- leak it to the internets, something -- so we can see exactly how difficult some of these questions were. The hard jump-cut after the Iran question is especially frightening; why was that question so hard that it required a hard edit before she answered? Fucking unreal.

But seriously, she scored huge with the fucking morons that are going to vote this ticket. The only question is, how'd she fare with Independents and moderates that may still be undecided. Either way, the meme that says The Media™ is out to get Sarah Palin just got an enormous shot in the arm last night.

Of course :

These principles are sometimes referred to as the Bush Doctrine although the term is often used to describe other elements of Bush policy and is not universally recognized as the single concept.

Pisses you off that Gov Palin is not one of your regular readers, eh?

"Book banning or no, I’m just tickled pink that Sarah thinks that the town librarian has to be in the same party as her."

This struck me as odd as well. The librarian should be an apolitical job, firing her shows Palin likely suffers from the same, 'Loyalty over competence flaw that has plague the Bush administration.

Has Sarah Palin ever rejected and repudiated the banning of Harry Potter? No? Hmmmmmm.

Book banning or no, I'm just tickled pink that Sarah thinks that the town librarian has to be in the same party as her.

I'd like to think that if I were mayor of some tiny town I wouldn't give a rat's ass if the town librarian was a republican, as long as s/he kept the books shelved in the right order. But you know what they say about power and how it corrupts...

I also think it's great that not only couldn't Sarah give a cogent definition of the Bush Doctrine, she'd obviously never heard the term before in her life ("Whaddya mean, Charlie, his worldview???")
