Hmm. Not feelin’ the outrage on this one. A little tacky maybe, but get used to it. Dead-tree obits are going to disapper within a few decades. Myspace memorials and things like this are how younger dead people will be remembered.
The Rocky is on average worse and more tasteless than the New York Post.
They are not, necessarily, more outrageous than the Post, close but not quite. What takes the Rocky over-the-top is the fact that they act as though they are the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal (WSJ news not WSJ opinion). Those who write for the New York Post seem to understand that they are a couple of centimeters above the Enquirer. Those who write for the Rocky seem to be under the false impression that they are actual journalists and not hacks. That is the subtle yet fine spice which sends the Rocky into the depths.
The Denver Post is not much better. They are a bit more subtle but still “if it bleeds it leads.” They both used to be pretty decent regional papers before the JOA. In the past they would even trade places on the political spectrum. In the ’80s the Rocky was the more liberal of the two. Since they stopped competing they have both gone into the cellar. Now the Rocky, especially the editorial pages, seems edited by Freepers whereas the Post is merely edited by Fox News.
