Charles Gibson, Fluff Artist?

That is how the propaganda show interview with Sarah Palin is shaping up. Of course, this is the school of journalism Gibson is now associating himself with:

Prepare for pattycake, folks.

UPDATE: August discusses the technical impossibilities involved.

“you get the white discount”-Charlie to Sarah Palin

Nothing like a little pre-interview whining to get the juices flowing, huh?

  3. Well, Gibson, who I’ve thought of as a stand up guy, can go both ways with this interview: Ask tough questions, or be deferential like the McCain campaign stipulated they want all interviews to be. Based on Mr. Gibson’s recent history, I fear the second may be in the offing.

  4. Hedley says:

Why was this left out of the quoted piece from Politico:

““ABC News will have plenty of time to question her and examine her and spend time with her,” a campaign official said. “They’ll do multiple interviews over two days. No topics are off-limits – there are no ground rules. There’s tons of time to talk to her about every topic.””

    No stipulation here.

  5. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    “No stipulation here.”

If he starts with, “You have claimed that you have military experience because you are the head of the Alaska national guard. However, in your 20 months in office, you have made absolutely no decisions. So how can it be considered true experience?”

That would be a great question. A fair question. I’m 90% sure that if that was his first question, there would be no second question.

The format of the interview (several small interviews over two days) insures that.

On the other hand, if it was live on one of the Sunday morning talk shows, he could ask that and if Palin walked out, it would be a disaster for Palin.

OT: I made an ad that has both football and politics in it, so I hoped I could pimp it here. Just this once.

In the bizarro universe where American journalists actually did their jobs, here’s a question I’d like answered:

“Mrs. Palin, you are a staunch believe in ‘abstinence only’ education. You voted to cut funding for an Alaskan program for teen mothers. You believe that sex outside of marriage is sinful and should be legistlated as such.

How did you feel when you discovered your unwed teen daughter was engaged in sinful, immoral behavior that will land her in hell? How does this reflect upon you as a parent? Don’t you think it’s unfair to legislate the sex lives of others when you’ve failed to raise you daughter in an appropriate fashion?”

  8. JWG says:

you are a staunch believe in ‘abstinence only’ education

Except that she supports public school education for contraception.

You voted to cut funding for an Alaskan program for teen mothers

Except that she INCREASED funding from 1.3 million to 3.9 million (the “slash” in funding was that she increased funding 3x rather than 3.8x the current allotment).

sex outside of marriage is sinful and should be legistlated as such

This is so stupid I don’t even know what it means.

Shorter Jaim: “I lie as easily as I breathe. Please point at me and laugh.”

  9. Jaim says:

Her words and actions, not mine. Why is it wonderful for her daughter to be young, unmarried, and pregnant, but it’s a sin for anybody else (say, Jamie Lynn Spears?).

Personally, I’m against unmarried teens getting pregnant. But let’s deal with the issue logically, not with hyper-Evangelical fringe fundamentalism, e.g., Sarah Palin.

  10. JWG says:

Her words and actions, not mine.

    Liar.

  11. Parthenon says:

I’m not optimistic… the tone of this thing, so far, has not been indicative of a desire to get down to business. I’m expecting a lot of blather about the family and breaking the gender barrier.

    Hope I’m wrong.

  12. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Except that she INCREASED funding from 1.3 million to 3.9 million…”

No, the legislative branch raised the funding, she cut it back down.

  13. JWG says:

    she cut it back down

Yeah, she “cut it back down” to a much HIGHER level than it was to begin with.

Let’s do an experiment on Leftist math, shall we?

Let’s imagine little CS asking his mommy for a raise in his allowance.
    1) He currently gets $1.30 per week.
    2) He asks for $5.00 per week.
    3) His mommy decides to give him $3.90.
    4) Little CS cries to all his friends that his mommy cut his allowance.

    Idiots.

  14. Enlightened Liberal says:

You really don’t understand how government works, do you jwg?

  15. Parthenon says:

Based on the little I’ve read of the subject, it appears JWG is correct. She did apparently cut the size of the increase, which was still tremendous. I don’t know the first thing about teen pregnancy in Alaska, so I don’t know if it’s meeting the program’s needs, but it appears that she didn’t cut it; she cut the size of the increase.

But if I’m wrong, and you gents have something to back it up, please, let it be known.

  16. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Yeah, she “cut it back down” to a much HIGHER level than it was to begin with.”

Wow. You really don’t know how government works, do you?

If you had to take to same exam immigrants take to become a citizen, you would never have passed it.

(Note: Damn it, EL. You practically stole my post… before I wrote it.)

  17. JWG says:

At least I can do basic math.

    3.9 > 1.3

  18. the interviews will be conducted where and when the mccain/palin folks say and it won’t be one long interview either. i guess if they get the sense that gibson isn’t onboard the propaganda train they’ll just withdraw. i love the idea of a woman so tough that her nickname is “barracuda” who also happens to be scared crap-less of the media. more like a goddamned guppy.

  19. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“At least I can do basic math.
    3.9 > 1.3″

So can I. And I can figure out than when the legislative branch passes a bill with $5.0 million in funding, and Palin uses her line item veto to cut it to $3.9 million that $5.0 million is greater than $3.9 million.

Remember, Palin doesn’t make the budgets, she only signs them.

  20. Sean D. Martin says:

I think JWG makes a very valid point on this one. And the un-elaborated, vague “you don’t know how government works” isn’t much of a counter.

I’m fairly certain that had Obama or Biden raised the funding for something 3x, even if that was less of an increase than what was asked for, there would be folks here insulting anyone who tried to call it a cut.

  21. JWG says:

Whaaaaaaa! Mommy cut my allowance from $1.3 to $3.9! Whaaaaaa!

  22. Nimrod Gently says:

    5 > 3.9

    See. I know maths too

  23. JWG says:

You know the difference between what you asked for and what you got. You just lack the intellectual integrity to compare it to what you started with.

Whaaaaaaaaa! Mommy only raised my allowance by 300%! Whaaaaaa!

  24. Parthenon says:

My next questions would be why did the state congress approve the five million, did lacking the extra funds seriously compromise Covenant House’s operation, where did they redirect the 1.1 million, and was it a better use than the Covenant House.

I dunno. Even if they didn’t get the whole shebang, were I the Covenant House Director I’d be pretty satisfied with 300% of my original grant.

  25. anotherbozo says:

Do you pornographers think OW knows what a “fluff artist” is? I just wondered.

  26. The Reality-Based Dave says:
