McCain “Black Supporters” Were Bought And Paid For

They only cost him a few dollars to buy some stock photos.

I want to laugh, but I want to cry at the same time.

Well, how on Earth was he going to meet any real black people?

All political parties, all publishers, all communicators use stock photos.

This photo of a black delegate at the RNC is pretty awesome.

True, and there are stocks of white people as well. But all the same, it does feel like they’re yelling “LOOK BLACK PEOPLE WE ARE AWARE OF BLACK PEOPLE BLACK PEOPLE LOVE US”

Of course, and there is usually a reason for the selection, a theme, SOMETHING to help the art director select from the millions of available photos.

Help me here. What message were these photos intended to convey? What THEME is being illustrated?

Would it be that some black people support McCain? If so, how does a generic photo of a black individual whose politics are a mystery advance that theme?

I say it’s pandering at the most base level? What say you?

I strongly object to the title of this post “McCain “Black Supporters” Were Bought and Paid For.

The people in these stock photos are supplementing their income by posing for these generic pictures. The wages paid are honest.

The dishonesty is that these people appear to be supporting and endorsing political candidates when their images are used in political advertisements. Wasn’t the child in Clinton’s 3AM ad now an adult Obama supporter?

I think the same rule that applies to celebrity endorsements should apply to all individuals in political ads. The people must consent to the use of their images in political advertisements. It’s called a release form.

Nothing would surprise me. Definitely base level.

  9. Did you add the photo during the stump? The one where McCain is shaking the hand of the sistah wearing the Obama tee shirt?

I am all for folks making an honest living. If the people in the photos got paid, I ain’t mad at them!
