GOP Senate Campaign Committee Pulls Out Of New Mexico
Tweet
For the ten millionth time, this election is about individual states.
Republicans’ Senate campaign arm called off television ads Tuesday that were to air in New Mexico in the run-up to Election Day, an indication that it’s leaving the GOP candidate there to fend for himself as the party braces for losses.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee’s decision to cancel the New Mexico spots reflects its priorities during a tough year for the GOP, with the party lagging badly in fundraising and resigned to losing seats in the Senate.
New Mexico has been moving in Sen. Obama’s direction. In 2004, Bush won New Mexico. I also feel it is worth noting that New Mexico has a large Hispanic population and we were told by the punditocracy that because Sen. Obama did not do well among Hispanics during the primary, John McCain (who, by the way, was a POW) would swoop in and take those voters. That seems to not have happened.

I’m only a state away. Hopefully NM turning blue in 2008 will contribute to my state turning blue in 2012.
[...] I mention this because while most of the commentary has been following national polls, the thing that few are really looking are the state by states. And in the war for states, it looks as though the GOP is ceding New Mexico to Obama. [...]
The message has been clear “A Change You Can Believe In.”

I thought the GOP was in favor of abstinance-only.
I don’t think New Mexico will be a swing state this year. I also think reverse coattails will help the Democrats in Virginia and that’s 18 EC votes. Throw in Iowa, and all of Kerry’s states, ans the Democrats win.
It’s not guaranteed, but it is becoming more likely.

On a side note, Ras. has Obama up a point form yesterday. It might be statistical noise, but it could be a sign that McCain’s convention bounce is already over. If that is the case, it is bad news for the GOP.
Good sidenote, Oliver. I was just commenting the other day that we sure haven’t heard much from the media about “Obama’s Latino problem” — which lead me to believe, accurately, that he’s getting a good percentage of the demographic.
They’ll try to drum-up controversies related to Democrats, but ignore them in the case of Republicans. e.g. If Obama is now doing well with Latinos, doesn’t McCain, by necessity, have a problem? If the small % of Democrats who identify themselves as PUMAs are a significant problem for Obama, then what exactly are Ron Paul and Bob Barr for McCain? (How ’bout that coverage of the Ron Paul shadow convention during the RNC, eh?)
