GOP Embraces Graphic 9/11 Imagery

As you would expect. They can’t do anything but use 9/11 as a backdrop. Like maybe try to catch the people responsible.

One hundred years from now they’ll teach University courses about the 2008 Presidential Election. What we are witnessing is a seed change, nothing short of a Revolution.

Quietly, in basements and dens around America, an army of MILLIONS of Bloggers and fellow travelers is no longer responding to the media – considering what the media puts in front of us – considering the facts they have fed us, the facts on which we have had to base out thoughts – what has happened this year, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WORLD HISTORY, is that the PEOPLE have actually turned the tables and WE THE PEOPLE now CONTROL the agenda and the information which is available to the people. The media have been reduced to following our lead; OUR findings of facts and the Blogsphere’s exposure of Sarah Palin’s appalling scandals and background are a prime example.

The REVOLUTION is HERE, we are not only fighting it, we are WINNING it – not with hate, guns, rocks and blood – but with facts, and communication, and an Internet with a million points of light – each point of which can take facts off and add new ones on.

For the first time in my adult life – America has a REAL chance at change.

    God Bless America!

These people are classic bullies. When you don’t fear them, they cry.

I hear Barack has a plan to invade Pakistan and get Bin Laden. Of course, Pakistan may not be too pleased about that and they do have nukes.

  9. Quaker in a Basement says:

Dave, if I send you a dollar will you promise to buy a newspaper with it?

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 3 — Helicopters carried U.S. and Afghan commandos many miles into Pakistan on Wednesday to stage the first U.S. ground attack against a Taliban target inside the country, Pakistani officials said. At least 20 local people died in the raid, according to the officials.

  10. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Linky!

  11. Sean D. Martin says:

One of the most enduring taboos in American politics, the airing of graphic images from the September 11 attacks in a partisan context, died today. It was nearly seven years old.

I agree such images should not be used in this way, but “most enduring in American politics”? Something that’s been around for all of 3% of the history of American politics?

Pretty sure if we looked over the 2 centuries of American politics we’d find a lot of “taboos” that endured for more than 7 years.

Dave in SoCal: I hear Barack has a plan to invade Pakistan…

You hear wrong, then. Or you hear right, but insist on getting it wrong. And you’re smarter than that. Surely you can support your views without falling back on the spouting of inaccurate and spurious “talking points”.

  12. Dave in SoCal says:

    Quaker,

No no no. I’m not talking about some sissy little cross-border raid into Pakistan to get a few Taliban fighters, I’m talking about Obama putting Musharraf on notice that if he didn’t deal with Bin Laden then Obama would do it for him.

“There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans,” he said. “They are plotting to strike again. . . . If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.”

  13. Yeah, that crazy Barack Obama, promising to do anything to kill or capture the man who masterminded the plot that killed 3000 Americans.

    THAT IS CRAAAAAAAZY.

  14. duh says:

So is Sean wrong? Or Oliver?

  15. Quaker in a Basement says:

If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.

And this is different from what happened yesterday how again?

  16. Quaker in a Basement says:

On the other hand, perhaps the border regions of Pakistan are actually beyond the “gates of hell,” so Mr. McCain has an out.

  17. Dave in SoCal says:

And this is different from what happened yesterday how again?

When Obama says it, it just sounds so kick-ass. He’s like Dirty Harry Callahan refusing to play by the rules. “If you’re a pussy and won’t do it, I will!”.

  18. duh says:

Yea, cause when shit is going down in the world, who does the world turn to?

    Thats right…

    A Community Organizer

(Hey, can we make a t-shirt out of that?)

  19. Zython says:

Yea, cause when shit is going down in the world, who does the world turn to?

    Thats right…

    A Community Organizer

(Hey, can we make a t-shirt out of that?)

Rather have a community organizer running the country than a frat boy or a geriatric playboy.

  20. Quaker in a Basement says:

When Obama says it, it just sounds so kick-ass. He’s like Dirty Harry Callahan refusing to play by the rules. “If you’re a pussy and won’t do it, I will!”.

Then what does that make Mr. McCain sound like when he says: “To get bin Laden, I’ll do whatever it takes…I’ll follow him to the gates of hell…but not into Pakistan.”

  21. Frank DiSalle says:

One thing I always respected about you, Quaker : You understand that a young man ( or woman ) dying in Pakistan to “get bin Laden” and make Obama look tough is just as dead as a soldier who dies in Iraq , making McCain look tough …

  22. C.S.Strowbridge says:

I noticed that the right-wing trolls are not even trying to defend this shit. They are just changing the subject.

I guess that’s all they have left: lies and distractions.

  23. Nimrod Gently says:

“You understand that a young man ( or woman ) dying in Pakistan to “get bin Laden” and make Obama look tough is just as dead as a soldier who dies in Iraq , making McCain look tough …”

Hideous as it is, at least the former died for a reason.

  24. merl says:

that’s how right wingers argue, they change the subject.

  25. Frank DiSalle says:

    9/11 didn’t happen!
    Bushies blew the building up!
    You can’t melt steel!
    There are no terrorists!
All Muslims vigorously, vocally oppose terrorism!
No, wait there are no Islamic terrorists!

Have I got all the talking points now?

  26. Frank DiSalle says:

Nimrod , just because you don’t KNOW the reasons, does not mean there are not any …

Besides, pulling out of Iraq now or even before the end of 2009, WOULD BE the biggest foreign policy in US history, since JFK failed to support the Bay of Pigs invasion …

  27. Frank DiSalle says:

should be “biggest Foreign Policy blunder”

  28. datadave says:

Yeah, sure Dave so CAl. How about McSame,McCAin “Fight With Me” wants us to take on Russia? Yeah, Pakistan couldn’t even get one of their dinky nucs to the USA but Russia sure could. Obama=peace, McCain=war/ Simple as That.

    “Fight with me”

  29. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Have I got all the talking points now?”

You sounded a lot smarter when you weren’t posting.

  30. Parthenon says:

So this is pretty much a naked and indefensible appeal to emotion, bating the worst instincts of the GOP’s members and making considerable use of the worst tactics of the Bush years.

  31. Dave in SoCal says:

Yeah, sure Dave so CAl. How about McSame,McCAin “Fight With Me” wants us to take on Russia?

After pointing out that Russia recently “invaded a small, democratic neighbor to gain more control over the world’s oil supply, intimidate other neighbors, and further their ambitions of reassembling the Russian empire” [what part of that isn't true?], he goes on to say “As President I will work to establish good relations with Russia so we need not fear a return of the Cold War. But we can’t turn a blind eye to aggression and international lawlessness that threatens the peace and stability of the world and the security of the American people”.

You should really drink less when watching TV or posting (preferably both).

  32. PD100 says:

    9-11 imagery BUT THERE’S NO COLUMNS!!11!! NO COLUMNS !! TAKE THAT LIE-BRULS!1!!!

  33. Nimrod Gently says:

Alright, the latter did die for a reason. To lubricate the gears in the military industrial complex.

    Not good enough.

Also, still no wingnuts responding to the 9/11 video I see.

  34. Sean D. Martin says:

duh: So is Sean wrong? Or Oliver?

    Neither. As usual, you are.

invasion – the act of an army that invades for conquest or plunder; entrance as if to take possession or overrun; the entrance of an armed force into a territory to conquer

Bush invaded Iraq. He went into the country to wage war against the country, overthrow its government and take over. Obama has never suggested going to war with Pakistan, replacing its government or taking over the country. He was very specific and clear (again, compare that with the vagueness and sloppiness of Bush et al): “If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.”

  35. Sean D. Martin says:

CSS: I noticed that the right-wing trolls are not even trying to defend this shit. They are just changing the subject.

I guess that’s all they have left: lies and distractions.

All they have left? Seriously, C. When have they ever really had anything else?

  36. Dave in SoCal says:

Obama has never suggested going to war with Pakistan, replacing its government or taking over the country. He was very specific and clear

Oh sure, he’s not going to invade Pakistan, per se, he merely wants to do a little breaking and entering, a bit of trespassing, maybe some illegal search and seizure.

I’m sure the people of Pakistan will understand the nuance of his position.

Nice attempt to elevate saintly Obama above that brutish thug Bush.

  37. j mccann says:

Just think, if Clinton would have taken Bin Laden when he had the chance, you wouldn’t have to deal with that imagery. Instead he wanted to send him a subpeona or something.

    Terrorists don’t honor subpoenas, fyi.

    That damn Clinton.

  38. Sean D. Martin says:

Dave in SoCal: Nice attempt to elevate saintly Obama above that brutish thug Bush.

Actually, it was an attempt to have a reasoned exchange with you. But since that seems impossible…

  39. Zython says:

Oh sure, he’s not going to invade Pakistan, per se, he merely wants to do a little breaking and entering, a bit of trespassing, maybe some illegal search and seizure.

Funny, you ultra cons had no problems with doing the same with Iraq and Afghanistan.

  40. Nimrod Gently says:

Oh sure, he’s not going to invade Pakistan, per se, he merely wants to do a little breaking and entering, a bit of trespassing, maybe some illegal search and seizure.

I’m sure the people of Pakistan will understand the nuance of his position.

I am genuinely, genuinely half-laughing half-sobbing. It’s just incredible. You bastards. You venal bastards.

  41. Quaker in a Basement says:

Just think, if Clinton would have taken Bin Laden when he had the chance,

Do you have any fresh baloney? This stuff you’re peddling has been out of date for several years.

  42. C.S.Strowbridge says:

j mccann: “Just think, if Clinton would have taken Bin Laden when he had the chance, you wouldn’t have to deal with that imagery. Instead he wanted to send him a subpeona or something.”

    Wow. That’s an impressive lie.

Clinton wanted to send the military into Afghanistan. The REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS WOULD NOT LET HIM, so he fired a couple of cruise missiles instead.

  43. Bruce Henry says:

Republicans have been cutting and running for years. When Hizbollah blew up 241 US Marines, Reagan bravely…. invaded fucking Grenada. Then he sold missiles to Iran to try and get the Iranians to pleaseplease stop taking hostages in Lebanon. When Libyan agents blew up a disco in Germany, killing several US soldiers, President John Wayne, er, I mean Reagan, bombed Qaddafi’s baby daughter. Whem Libya blew up the plane over Lockerbie, Bush41 sent a 20,000 man SWAT team to arrest the dictator…. of fucking Panama. Then they have the nerve to blame 9/11 on Clinton.
And this is the party that’s “tough on National Security.”
