$8 Million+ Reasons To Thank Sarah Palin

As I pointed out, Sarah Palin’s partisan screed activated the Republican base, but while it probably turned off the middle and other independents, it also activated the Democratic base. I’m hearing that since Palin’s speech, Obama’s campaign has pulled in around $8 million — and growing.

Keep it up, Mrs. Separatist.

MORE:

Obama spokesman Bill Burton says, “Sarah Palin’s attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected. And we fully expect John McCain’s attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger.”

Yes, we can. Backlash is a bitch.

I got a call from the national campaign last night. Pledged $100. That was before Palin’s speech. If I didn’t have to send my kids to college, I’d send in the max at this point.

I’m a major Obama supporter, and I will be 100% honest and say that I am worried. But not that “my candidate” will lose. But that my country will lose. I’ve always liked McCain…when he was moderate. And if he was still the same person he was when he was moderate, I wouldn’t be that worried if he won. But now he’s gotten so right-wing, that I fear many things, including sinking even more money and lives into pointless wars. And I also fear our economy is just going to get worse, unemployment is going to keep rising, and much of the world will flooded over in 20 years.

Much of that speech last night seemed very hateful. And the speakers and the audience looked so afraid. And fear doesn’t make a very good foundation for society. It has lead to some horrible things in the past. And, our founding father’s were aware of the danger. James Madison said…

“If Tyranny and Opression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”

I bought a few buttons today and gave another $20. Scared? Nah, I just want the guy who supports my issue positions in the White House. Why does it always have to be spurious ad hominem BS with the other side? I’ve gladly donated when I’ve been able to ever since O announced his candidacy.

  5. Sharon says:

We should be scared, republicans are continuing with their agenda of leading this nation into war of many countries and have no common sense of priorities which is our nation’s economy. Oil will not solve a problem or even put a band-aid. There is too much hate in the world to let a republican continue in office.

I wonder what the currency would be in the Palin’s secessionist dreams of an independent Alaska

    Babies.

  8. Greg says:

The nytimes apologized for printing that palin was a member of the alaskan secessionist party, which was based on an unverified source turned and out to be false. Lets hear it for fact checking! NYT, shame on you!

I listened to the McCain speech on npr and am not driven to dispair at Obama’s chances. His Underdog voice doesn’t resonate, but at least he read a good speech, one apparently written just for him as he railed against the sitting president he voted with 95% of the time these past couple of years.
I suppose he and Palin will be on the stump over the weekend and he’ll have a few more opportunities to stare at her ass on the podium.

  10. Robert F says:

    Greg,

Apparently Sarah Palin was not a member, but her husband was. And she attended their convention, twice. Country first? Except when you are trying to tear it apart.

  11. We can’t afford 4 more years of the same. Grampie McSame and Caribu Barbie have got to go!

  12. Susan says:

Palin is a down to earth attractive personality who gave a rousing speech for the GOP who don’t care much for McCain..But didn’t the repub base learn choosing a candidate because they’d like to sit and have a beer with ‘em( interject hunt with, pta with, soccer game watch with,) is not a smart move…the rest of us have 60 days to evaluate this woman who is next in line after the oldest person ever to run for President..Repubs: Remember you chose Bush twice.. this time think it through..
