Davis demurred when asked when Palin will sit for interviews with major news organizations, pointing out that now would not be the right time given the ‘combative’ attitude the media has seemingly adopted toward Palin.

The guy could have said, “Gov. Palin will be giving all kinds of interviews after the convention once she had a chance to introduce herself to the American people directly.” Instead, what did he say? He said the media was in too “combative” a mood to risk putting Palin out there.

Clearly the Republicans are a bunch of whiners. I mean c’mon. Palin can’t handle a combative press corps? Tough shit. Do you think they’re going to be any less combative after the campaign has tried to spin them for two weeks?

Wait, Jay, are you suggesting that this campaign should be all about the issues? You might want to run that one by the McCain camp, my friend:

Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain’s presidential bid, insisted that the presidential race will be decided more over personalities than issues during an interview with Post editors this morning.

“This election is not about issues,” said Davis. “This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

Davis added that issues will no doubt play a major role in the decisions undecided voters will make but that they won’t ultimately be conclusive.

I believe the currently accepted formulation of this idea is: If she can’t stand up to the media, how can she stand up to Al Qaeda?

First, seriously, you ask when Obama was last interviewed when he was just (2 days ago) interviewed on one of the most well known platform there is? Seriously, that’s just lame.

It’s been clear that she simply can’t undergo a real interview between now and the election. Even a Fox News interview would be a minefield; how are they going to know what she doesn’t know? There’s no indication that she has a clue about anything beyond the borders of Alaska, for starters. Ask her 10 questions which require knowing, say, that Iraq isn’t next to Afghanistan, the recent history of Georgia (not the one next to Alabama), who Putin is, how FEMA works, what nations make up the NATO alliance, basic federal tax policy, and she’s going to fail laughably on 3 or 4 of them. She just has no exposure to, and has shown no obvious interest in, these areas, and sufficient knowledge to not make obvious stumbles can’t be woodshedded.

Irrespective of what Rick Davis said, she can’t and won’t be interviewed, end of story.
