Palin Can’t Stand Up To Media, How Can She Be A Heartbeat Away?

If you’re afraid to sit for an interview, how the hell can you back up the president in negotiations, preside over the senate, and for Christ’s sake, be commander-in-chief in a time of emergency?

Davis demurred when asked when Palin will sit for interviews with major news organizations, pointing out that now would not be the right time given the ‘combative’ attitude the media has seemingly adopted toward Palin. Pressed on the issue, Davis insisted that ‘we allot a lot more access in our campaign than any campaign in modern political history….we’ll get around to it.’

I’m sure somewhere in John McCain’s addled mind he was reaching out to women voters, particularly those who supported Sen. Clinton, but at the end of the day his pick of Palin just insults all women.

Oh for crissakes Oliver. There’s nothing in the article that suggests Palin is not going to sit down to do interviews. And why should she do any before she gets to deliver her speech at the RNC?

When do we get around to the posts about her killing kittens and puppies?

For somebody that is SO CONFIDENT about the election, you sure seem to be going the extra mile with the smears. So far according to you and some of the pond scum that occupy your comments section , she’s secessionist book burning lousy mother who covered for her daughters pregnancy, whose got a slut for a daughter.

It’s so good to know that you’re all about the “issues.”

Uh-oh, Jay. Maybe you should go read the article. The headline quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis says “this election is not about issues.”

  3. PackyJ says:

    Jay,

Oliver’s right. If Sarah wants to run with the big dogs, she can’t be pissing like a puppy.

The “internet vetting” is being done because McCain & the Republican camp didn’t vet her.

Mr. Willis is no more responsible for Palin’s embarrassing past than you are. The press isn’t “being hostile” for asking questions. Of course, it’s easier to launch ad hominem attacks and kill the messenger, isn’t it?

Of course, because of them pesky intertubes, today it’s come to light that as Wasilla Mayor, Sarah had ties to an Abramoff lobbyist.

Damn them internet tubes anyway, huh?

Oh, by the way – FYI, Sarah’s been removed as a speaker from tonight’s agenda… but I’m sure that’s just a typo.

Good luck with her on the ticket. Really.

I really hope you guys keep her there.

  4. Michael says:

Yeah, why should she do interviews? It’s not like she’s asking Americans to give her an important job or anything.

  5. The McCain camp is saying that Palin doesn’t/can’t do interviews because the media is “combative”. You know what’s combative?

BEING VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

  6. Jay Tea says:

…and just when was Obama’s last sit-down interview? Not counting the family puff-piece in People, of course.

    J.

  7. Jay Tea says:

WOO HOO! Michelle “never proud of America before” Obama is BACK IN PLAY!!!!!!

I say we start with her job — the one where she got a 160% raise in between her husband’s election to the Senate and his securing a million-dollar earmark for her employer. I’m sure that’ll be FULLY discussed here…

    J.

  8. PackyJ says:

    Jay,

Since you have an inability to use the intertubes, Obama and Biden had a sit-dwon interview on “60 Minutes, August 31, 2008.

    Next question?

  9. JWG says:

    Packy,

Since you have an inability to use calanders, that would be 8 days after he was picked for VP.

    Next important point?

  10. drinkof says:

    Jay:

First, seriously, you ask when Obama was last interviewed when he was just (2 days ago) interviewed on one of the most well known platform there is? Seriously, that’s just lame.

It’s been clear that she simply can’t undergo a real interview between now and the election. Even a Fox News interview would be a minefield; how are they going to know what she doesn’t know? There’s no indication that she has a clue about anything beyond the borders of Alaska, for starters. Ask her 10 questions which require knowing, say, that Iraq isn’t next to Afghanistan, the recent history of Georgia (not the one next to Alabama), who Putin is, how FEMA works, what nations make up the NATO alliance, basic federal tax policy, and she’s going to fail laughably on 3 or 4 of them. She just has no exposure to, and has shown no obvious interest in, these areas, and sufficient knowledge to not make obvious stumbles can’t be woodshedded.

Irrespective of what Rick Davis said, she can’t and won’t be interviewed, end of story.

    re: title of this post

I believe the currently accepted formulation of this idea is: If she can’t stand up to the media, how can she stand up to Al Qaeda?

    Just ask Roger Ailes!

  12. Quaker in a Basement says:

Ms. Palin prays for a pipeline:

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin’s foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska’s governor asked the audience to pray for another matter — a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. “I think God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that,” she said.

  13. JWG says:

she simply can’t undergo a real interview between now and the election

Yes, this “clearly” will be the case. No doubt about it. Case closed. Republicans are trembling at the thought of her in public.

  14. Jay says:

    The “internet vetting”

Right. The “Palin’s son is really her grandson” stuff was truly good hard vetting work on behalf of the blogging hard left.

  15. Jay says:

JWG and when she does do the interviews and does well, they’ll find some other reason to piss and moan.

  16. MobiusKlein says:

JWG, the 8 days between the announcement and interview would matter IF Biden was some unknown who had not ever been on the national stage.

Biden had previously run for President, has already shown on the national stage. A bit different, yes?

  17. JWG says:

    A bit different, yes?

No. Have you looked at polls that asked positives/negatives about Palin and Biden? At least 25% STILL don’t even recognize the name “Biden”.

She’s 4 days in so far and will speak at the convention. After that they’ll put her in front of the press so much you’ll get sick of her.

  18. jr says:

I’m sure God told her to hire the lobbying firm to get the 27 million dollars in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700

  19. MobiusKlein says:

Cmon, are you telling me that before Palin was announced as a VP pick, she was as well known as Biden?

If you said Elizabeth Dole, Christine Todd Whitman, or Katherine Harris, you might have a leg to stand on. Biden had 20 times the exposure as Palin.

  20. Matt says:

Perhaps with a paraphrase or 2, I believe this is an appropriate response:

“You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can’t take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit? You don’t like it, leave.”

  21. midderpidge says:

Is Palin ready for the tough questions?

I would like to know: who throws their pregnant 17 year old daughter into the national spotlight like that without even talking to her about it first?

Also, now that she’s made her daughter a very public example of how ‘abstinence only’ doesn’t work, will she change her position.

  22. Quaker in a Basement says:

Erick Erickson at Redstate is a freaking genius*.

Ben Smith at the Polico got hold of an old oppo research file from the Alaska Democrats 2006 campaign. The file contained some sensitive information (partial SSN, home addresses, home phone number, addresses).

So what does Erick do? He links to a pdf of the file!

(If by “genius” you mean “a complete tool.”)

  23. Evi says:

I have real concerns about my personal safety with the McCain/Palin ticket. Palin is just not equipped to be president. The international top dogs will not take Palin seriously. I think we need to consider the popularity of Obama in the European theater and his ability to discuss the issues. I just can’t warm up to McCains choice of VP and I don’t respect her like I do Obama/Biden. Wonder how others feel about this?

  24. fafaroo says:

“It’s so good to know that you’re all about the ‘issues.’”

Wait, Jay, are you suggesting that this campaign should be all about the issues? You might want to run that one by the McCain camp, my friend:

Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain’s presidential bid, insisted that the presidential race will be decided more over personalities than issues during an interview with Post editors this morning.

“This election is not about issues,” said Davis. “This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

Davis added that issues will no doubt play a major role in the decisions undecided voters will make but that they won’t ultimately be conclusive.

And yes, I posted this another thread. I just love it that Jay “I’m all about the Issues” has just been abandoned by his own candidate.

    Too fucking priceless.

  25. fafaroo says:

The right wing morons here are missing the point entirely, as usual.

What’s telling here is this answer from Davis:

Davis demurred when asked when Palin will sit for interviews with major news organizations, pointing out that now would not be the right time given the ‘combative’ attitude the media has seemingly adopted toward Palin.

The guy could have said, “Gov. Palin will be giving all kinds of interviews after the convention once she had a chance to introduce herself to the American people directly.” Instead, what did he say? He said the media was in too “combative” a mood to risk putting Palin out there.

Clearly the Republicans are a bunch of whiners. I mean c’mon. Palin can’t handle a combative press corps? Tough shit. Do you think they’re going to be any less combative after the campaign has tried to spin them for two weeks?

  26. Duros Hussein62 says:

    Instead, what did he say?

They might be mean to her! And ask her stuff!
