The theory here being applied to Palin seems to be "if it can possibly appear improper, by cherry-picking facts and events and stringing them into the least favorable light, then it is automatically wrong and corrupt and punishable," then let's apply the same theory elsewhere, shall we?

1) Michelle Obama gets hired by the University of Chicago Hospital.

2) Barack Obama gets elected to the United States Senate.

3) Michelle Obama gets a promotion and a 160% raise.

4) Barack Obama steers a $1,000,000 earmark to the University of Chicago Hospital.

Can we say "quid pro quo, Clarice?"

Mr Strowbridge, it appears I pissed you off by attempting to step in between you and Jay. I don't know what made me think I had any right to do so, or why I thought that I was being clever. I apologize.

But not to Jay.

Strowbridge, here are the facts, via Flopping Aces -- links in his article go to official state documents.

http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/08/29/palins-troopergate-beating-msm-distortions-to-the-truth/#more-7482

Wooten was found guilty of three incidents of Unbecoming Conduct, three incidents of Personal Conduct, one incident Failure To Perform Duties Properly/Use Of Government Property, two incidents of Conformance To Laws, one incident of Use Of Alcohol, and one incident of Operation to be prudent and lawful. The particulars cited -- not in their entirety:

1) Using a taser on his ten-year-old stepson.
2) Shooting a cow moose under his wife's permit.
3) Drinking a beer immediately before and during his shift, while driving a ASP cruiser.

For THAT, the State Police chose to give him a ten-day suspension. And for THAT, the union said five days was more than sufficient.

Further, there's still no proof that Palin actually intervened to get him fired. She removed the head of the State Police -- a political appointee, that she had the right to remove at will -- after several very public disagreements about budget matters and other issues. She offered him a different position (head of enforcing alcohol laws), but he refused it.

Further, Palin has cooperated fully with the investigation. They have not had to issue a single subpoena -- everything and anything they've asked for, they've gotten in a very timely manner. Contrast that with the Rose Law Firm billing records or William Jefferson, who almost triggered a Constitutional crisis.

You wanna keep sticking up for a drunken cop who tasers children? That's your call.

Oh, and Strowbridge, note that while you can say whatever you want about Curt from Flopping Aces, he actually links to the public-record documents that prove all this.

Facts. Try 'em sometime.

Well, I was, and now I feel badly about. You are always such a gentleman about these things.

I actually prefer not to "believe" in scientific things. I think you either have evidence that supports or refutes it. I don't think anthrogenic global warming is a proven theory. I do believe we should do what we can to decrease pollution in general, but not at the expense of our economy.

But this isn't a global warming debate...

Palin signed legislation establishing civil benefits for same sex couples.

Well, damn. The story I read was old. She does appear to be fairly extreme otherwise though.

But the other points are right on. I also have it on good information that she doesn’t believe in Unicorns or Global Warming.

Of course you're not suggesting belief in unicorns is tantamount to 'belief' in global warming...

If you can consider writing for a free newspaper a member of the “press” that is.

More convinced than ever that DUHHHH is Dr. Pee-dro. That's his MO.

Strowbridge, I summarized: the State Police gave Wooten a ten-day suspension. The union fought it down to a five-day suspension. As in, #3 and #4 cited above.

And that was wrong.
You know what else is wrong? Using the power of the Governor's office to override it.

Wow. The Republicans' heads are spinning around.

By picking Palin, McCain takes the "Obama is too inexperienced" issue right off the table, which was his only non-smear issue.

By picking Palin, McCain gives up on the independents. Palin is a complete 28%-er who backs Bush completely. She is also a creationist, hard-line pro-life, and evangelical Christian. You don't pick up independents with someone like that. If independents had those views, then they wouldn't be independents - they'd already be Republicans.

By picking Palin, McCain actually alienates women voters. It takes a Republican Kool-Aid drinker to believe that women will vote for McCain simply because a woman is on the ticket, especially since that woman is completely out of the mainstream political views that the strong majority of women hold.

This is a move to appeal to the Republican base, which it will. The problem is, though, that McCain already has 87% of that base locked up. And that base is a lot smaller than it was in 2004, while the number who self-identify as Democrats has increased by 10% to record highs.

Palin will definitely improve the turnout among Republican evangelicals, but their numbers have also dropped since since 2004 in a generational split.

Palin will be under intense media in the next two months to a degree that the Governor of Alaska never was. It is almost certain that she will make some gaffe, which Republicans will be forced to defend.

Meanwhile, all McCain has left against Obama are smears: Ayers, Rezko, secret Muslim, crazy radical, and unpatriotic. None of these have gained traction despite being given heavy play in the primary and by McCain surrogates for several months. And Biden, HRC, and Bill will be attacking McCain constantly on his weaknesses. Being a "war hero" just won't cut it.

But the other points are right on. I also have it on good information that she doesn't believe in Unicorns or Global Warming. Also, she may have been investigated for tearing off those mattress labels that say "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law".

I was hoping McCain would pick Katharine Harris. I consider this a silver medal.

Me too.

I stand by my shorter, Jay. Your candidate screwed the pooch on this one.
Wouldn't it be precious if they put her name up at the convention and she gets rejected? That's what you get when you drunk dial looking for running mates, I guess.

I think all any of us can say with certainty regarding the Wooten investigation is that none of us were there and for now, we just don't know one way or the other until the investigation does its work.

And there are certainly more bothersome things about Gov. Palin - what's worse, that she once may have abused her executive power in firing a state trooper or that she doesn't believe global warming is man-made and doesn't believe homosexual couples deserve civil rights?

"AND THAT ORGANIZATION WAS LETTING HIM OFF WITH A SLAP ON THE WRIST."

And you know this how? Are you part of this organization? Were you there when evidence was presented?

You've made a conclusion not supported by the facts, again.

It's like it is pathological with you. Instead of sticking with the evidence, you go one step further and make conclusions you can't possibly support. I think the evidence is strong that you are incapable of telling the difference. You don't know the difference between objective reality, and the fantasy you create to support your preconceived notions.

"If you’re trying to bring down Palin, Strowbridge, I have no choice but to bring up a quote that I’m sure you’ve gleefully cited numerous times:"

And you are wrong again. How does it feel to be so fucking stupid?

You’ve made a conclusion not supported by the facts, again.

It’s like it is pathological with you. Instead of sticking with the evidence, you go one step further and make conclusions you can’t possibly support. I think the evidence is strong that you are incapable of telling the difference. You don’t know the difference between objective reality, and the fantasy you create to support your preconceived notions.

“If you’re trying to bring down Palin, Strowbridge, I have no choice but to bring up a quote that I’m sure you’ve gleefully cited numerous times:”

And you are wrong again. How does it feel to be so fucking stupid?

Jay Tea,

One fact you do not understand is "alleged threat" and "alleged other offenses" that's the facts.

One last point then:

Maybe her selection will prove that McCain does believe in Affirmative Action.

Careful, midderpidge, you're treading dangerously close to infringing on Chris Matthews' "thrill up my leg" schtick, and I think he holds a copyright on that one.

Oh, and a few facts that Strowbridge apparently doesn't think are relevant:

1) The Alaska State Police is the agency directly responsible for the physical safety of the governor and immediate family.

2) The trooper in question threatened to kill Palin's father and sister, among numerous other offenses.

3) The State police decided that the trooper's offenses merited a ten-day suspension.

4) The union representing the trooper fought and won a reduction of the suspension to five days.

Palin was not only an ear-witness to the threats to her sister and father, but her daughter was an eye-witness to the trooper in question tasering his 11-year-old stepson.

THIS GUY WAS PART OF THE ORGANIZATION THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING HER AND HER FAMILY SAFE. AND THAT ORGANIZATION WAS LETTING HIM OFF WITH A SLAP ON THE WRIST.

So, yeah, technically Strowbridge is correct, saying that this all came out "during" a child custody fight, but it was hardly "because" of a child custody fight. That, I believe, is called "lying by omission."

If you're trying to bring down Palin, Strowbridge, I have no choice but to bring up a quote that I'm sure you've gleefully cited numerous times:

"You're doing a heckuva job, Strowie."
