See, Dave, the point here is that Great Uncle John MIGHT DIE SOON. Whereas, being black is not really a sign that you MIGHT DIE SOON. As McCain might. Leaving Governor Who-the-hell? in charge. See, that's the difference between being old and being black.

"Rather than the media spending the day gushing over Obama’s awesome speech, everyone is instead talking about the McCain camp."

It certainly is a nice stunt that should get McCain through the weekend. Did anyone tell McCain, however, that after this news cycle is over he'll still have Palin as his VP? Nice to know that McCain campaign is thinking so long term ...

Dude, I don’t know if you noticed this, but John McCain is OLD.

Old? He is? Man, I had no idea, despite reading the comments here and listening to the Obama campaign, that McCain was an old guy.

Sheesh... next you're gonna tell me that Obama is black or something.

When John McCain had the chance to "work with Democrats to get things done" in regard to torture, he chose to work with Gonzales instead. When he worked with Dems in regard to campaign finance, he wound up watering down his own bill (which he now disavows entirely). When he started flailing in the 2008 primary campaign, he jettisoned all his previously held principles to kiss Karl Rove's and Jerry Falwell's respective asses.
So, despite the fact that your posts read like 12th Grade "Why I Love America" essays, I must, oh so respectfully, disagree.

It is the quality of the man, the depth of his character, and the strength of his soul that are number one in my book. I chose McCain on these grounds.

That cannot make less sense.

I am making my decision based on the values of John McCain as a strict constructionist in regards to the Constitution, his belief that “giving tax breaks” to Big Corporations makes America more competitive in the world economy (hence more jobs) and as a person who has a record of working with Democrats to get things done.

You cannot be serious. Obama is a Constitutional Law professor. McCain is not a lawyer. Who here do you think REALLY knows more about the construction of the constitution and who do you think will uphold and defend it more effectively?

Bruce,

I've always believed Sen. Obama was a good and decent man with the intellect and character to make a fantastic President. I am making my decision based on the values of John McCain as a strict constructionist in regards to the Constitution, his belief that "giving tax breaks" to Big Corporations makes America more competitive in the world economy (hence more jobs) and as a person who has a record of working with Democrats to get things done.

So as a Rightie (more of a Centrist looking towards the Right with a questioning eye), I have never made such challenges.

Hell, Abraham Lincoln had very little political experience, though some claim this lead to the near defeat of the Federal Army in the Civil War. But in response to *that*, Ulysses S. Grant - Savior of the Union Army - was also deeply inexperienced as a field commander. He served as a Quartermaster and Recruitment Officer before being promoted to Brigadier General and eventually to Commander of the Union Army.

It is the quality of the man, the depth of his character, and the strength of his soul that are number one in my book. I chose McCain on these grounds. Though Obama is a strong second.

See, you’re laboring under the mistaken assumption that Obama is somehow qualified to be president in the first place.

No, Dave, you are deflecting your own argument.
The dude is 47 years old and a natural born citizen. That's the only qualification he needs

You seriously think she has as much exp. points as Obama?

But see, Dave, Barack has just wrapped up a 17-month primary campaign. He has lots of allies, partners on both sides of the aisle in Congress, incredible intellect and charisma, and a huge national following.
If Sarah Palin becomes President on, say, 2/3/2009, what's she got?
And, again, what if Great Uncle John strokes out on, say, 10/10/08?

On a lighter note, why does John keep telling us all "what he stands for?" Dude, are you running for something? You sound so very moderate and reasonable, and patriotic! I picture you as a cross between Ward Cleaver and Underdog.

I want Jay and Dave and all the other Righties to post here about why they are SURE that Sarah Palin is so very very qualified.

See, you're laboring under the mistaken assumption that Obama is somehow qualified to be president in the first place.

So my opinion is that if she were to somehow find herself thrust into the POTUS job, Palin is no less qualified than Obama would be on day one of an Obama presidency.

I think we can all agree, Democrat and Republican, that a day after Barack's truly amazing speech and on the 88th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage, that America has not a choice between the lesser of two evils, but a truly impassioned choice of values and vision.

I love this country with all my heart.

PS- That includes you Lefties too. ;)

(woops, mistyped my nick when trying to post)

John - I agree with you 100% in everything you just wrote except for the being Republican bit.

And that conflicts NOT ONE JOT with my problem with Palin.

My problem (and the problem of many voters like me) is NOT that she herself is religious. Not even that she herself believes Young-Earth creationism to be true.

My problem is that she supports presenting Young Earth creationism to schoolchildren as a perfectly valid alternative explanation to the origin of matter and life on Earth. Crossing that line means you are explicitly in favor of the dumbening of America, regardless of your personal religious convictions.

If nothing else, the Palin pick today somewhat deflates the giant hype balloon that Obama was hoping to ride out of Denver.

Rather than the media spending the day gushing over Obama's awesome speech, everyone is instead talking about the McCain camp.

Happy Birthday, John!

Where’s the “insider dealing”

A member of the board that is part of the selection process that gives a $175K grant to a group that he is director of (and his friend Mike Klonsky is co-director of). I guess that's too nuanced for you.

Now Dave, you can’t kid an old kidder like me. “Insider dealing” is not the reason you mention Mr. Ayers name.

I'm sorry Quaker, did I accidentally say some kind of "code word" or mistakenly trigger some kind of "dog whistle"? I keep forgetting about the super-sensitive hearing of the left and their hair-trigger reaction to perceived slights or accusations.
