Random Branding Observations

* The typeface being used on the giant screen during the convention to identify each person is the same type the Obama campaign has been using on their material since launch.
* Almost every speech last night made a distinction between McCain as “more of the same” and Obama/Biden as “the change we need”. Democrats, on message. Imagine.
* I really like the effect of using signs that look like the state signs to emphasize the speaker on stage. The first night it was “Michelle”, the next were “Hillary” and “Obama” along with “Unity” on the other side of each.

FWIW, the typeface used by the Obama campaign – and the convention – is called Gotham. http://www.typography.com/fonts/font_overview.php?productLineID=100008
So do you think it will cause a thinking democrat even a little bit of cognitive dissonance to look at Biden, one of the most senior, entrenched, pro-war senators and “Change we can believe in”?
No. now go away.
I don’t think the DNC typeface is Gotham — the signs in the crowd (Hillary, Michelle, Unity) are using Gotham, but the DNCC logo uses Futura and the names appearing on the screen behind the speakers is Gill Sans. Gill was the typeface the Obama campaign used before switching to Gotham during the primaries.
